What's the perfect breeding ground for bigotry?

Being raised among many different cultures or totally segregated from them?

I was raised in the inner city and to this day, even though I was exposed to so many different peoples, I am still a little wary of a certain ethnic group. I bet it is not the group you are thinking of.

Your country being invaded or attacked by foreigners will cause quite a bit of bigotry, especially if it's state sponsored, like in many other countries.

3rd world countries are like that, as of the USA, I think it has to do with socioeconomic status these days - it's isn't always about black vs. white, but rich vs. poor.

Indeed...but that fear is often well-founded and justified. Look at the crime statistics broken down by race, and tell me you wouldn't be prejudiced seeing someone of that race in a dark alley in the inner city.

To me, racism and bigotry are bred when one is surrounded by people who perpetuate the negative stereotypes attached their race, ie in a crime-ridden inner city. If one lives in an area where members of that race do not perpetuate the stereotypes, i.e. they're responsible law-abiding folks, racism disappears.

Its ignorance for me.

I was ignorant of many other races and cultures and had my biases till getting to know individuals of those groups personally. Only then did my ignorance melt away and discovered that they are humans just like myself. After several such experiences, i try to apply that same 'everyone is human' logic to every group.

From my experience, I've noted those who have not lived in areas where there is diversity tend to have unrealistic fears of a particular race. I tend to believe it's because they've never been exposed to those of another race face to face and hear the worst horror stories of some instances....

Right smack dab in the middle of "diversity". It's the only way really see how other cultures "interact", or make use of the resources available to them. It's not bigotry. That's a term coined by people who are afraid to call a spade a spade for fear of being labeled a 'bigot'..
When you grow up saturated in "diversity", it's reality.
I have many friends or acquaintances from various cultures. They tend to be the exception.

How are they the exception? What made them become an exception?

Bigotry does not necessarily imply race. Bigotry is intolerance or prejudice to the extreme/to the point of hatred. It can be based on race, religion, or any other characteristic that can be used to group people.

I've never spent much time in an inner city, but I have worked in a part of town where I was the minority, and the socio-economic status of that part of town was pretty low. During the year that I worked there the majority of the people that I interacted with were very courteous, humble, and down to earth. Yes, I ran into some real snots, but then I spent a year working in a fairly well-to-do white part of town, and while I was there I ran into many, many more obnoxious, snotty jerks and mean, crappy people.
