Hidden agendas?

Funny, but I actually think the "hidden agenda" is a semi-permanent U.S. presence in the Middle East. I'm willing to bet the U.S. and Israel worked out the attack on Lebanon months ago. Israel has just been waiting for an excuse to go barrelling in there at risk of looking like the "bad guys" to all the Muslim nations in the region. Big deal, they're considered to be the "bad guys" to them anyway so no big loss to Israel. Israel gets to kick the crap out of Hezbollah and set the stage for the U.S. to ride in and play diplomat in wake of a "humanitarian crisis". Naturally the U.S. will lead the charge at forming another "multinational peacekeeping force" to occupy Lebanon and quietly pump the numbers up over the next several years, setting the stage for eventual moves against Syria and/or Iran. . .
Or maybe I've read one too many Tom Clancy novels, but I still find it more and more plausible as this thing keeps unfolding. Bush and company may be idiots, but they most certainly DO have their agendas, screwed-up and contorted though they may be. . .
