Tabs is that a 303 or a 461?? not sure the projectile will reach the 1000 yards mark!!! :)

Red-Beard, stay with the 200 grains Gold Dots ... the 230 grains (short barrel) do really nasty things to fleshy things. Watch out your fingers with the sand paper!! I do have (somewhere) a jig just to hold the slide at the proper angle to 'smoth' the edges.

(which we all are-im an undercover gun nut) to the JURY OF YOUR PEERS(which in your wildest dreams you think will be your peers-your wrong). the jury of your PEERS will be little old ladies who have never touched a firearm, and retired folk who are scared as hell of CRIME!

you run a hell of a risk carrying anything that has been modified extensively. ramping and a trigger smooth is acceptable. night sites are on the edge. you dont want to look like you intentionally carry a beefed up weapon LOOKING FOR TROUBLE!

if you are involved in a shooting............call 911 ASAP, then holster your weapon and try and remain calm(not reality i assure you). wait for cops to show and COMPLY WITH ALL COMMANDS! do not make ANY STATEMENTS BUT ONE.................I WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK TO MY ATTORNEY! PERIOD! and then expect alot of attention for awhile! serious stuff here that can and will change your life FOREVER!

So Charles do you thing that this is not appropriate as a carry gun??

I'll be dammed!!!

Charles gives very good advice (as usual); never carry a gun unless you are ready to use it and face the consequences.

charleskieffner 08-08-2006 11:21 AM

i want one like that badly! i also want an HK-SP89 with a 40rd stick or two and make the bad guys realize in a heartbeat they picked the wrong P-CAR to car jack!

BUT MY ATTORNEY HAS ADVISED ME AGAINST THAT!

that is one nice shooter! WOW! what kind of groups? at 25yds?

I may be incorrect here, but I have always been told that the .45 is a tumble projectile, not a spiraling one. This may or may not be true, or may only be true for certain grains or past a certain distance. Dunno. One thing's for sure I'll pick up a rental .45 next time I get my butt out to the range and see for myself, but I'm just going on what I've been told - don't trust a .45 past about 10 feet but if you're in a combat/defense situation that close, there's probably nothing better.

Both Senor Rigby and Senor Whitworth are .451 and they are extremely accurate at a 1000 yards, as it is what they were built for....

Jordi - What do you reccomend for an angle for the file on the outside edge?

charleskieffner 08-08-2006 11:33 AM

the cop standard around here(AZ) for the most part is a federal 230gr JHP for most depts that carry .45's. but in az. its kinda goofy. DPS(highway patrol) carry sig .45's. tucson p.d carries hk .40's. phx carries glock '40's, maricopa county sheriffs carry glock '45's, scottsdale carries glock .40's and on and on. navajo cops carry hk .40's. ft mcdowell indians carried beretta 9mm's. its a hodge podge. and when you go to mexico........EVERYONE WHO IS ANYONE IN UNIFORM CARRIES A MUY GRANDE .45! LOL!

MP5SD will be the tool of my choice, really fun to use.

I designed and build that gun for IPSC (I use to be a 'fanatic'). Groups ... let's say that on a bench rest you CANNOT go above 1" at 35 yds., but the gun was not designed for that .... but AccuRail always helps.

jriera 08-08-2006 11:42 AM

If I was to carry anything always will be a .45.

I have seen enough 'action' videos where the bad guy has enough 9mm lead to be declared a toxic landfill keep coming to the good guys.

On the other hand a 'properly-placed' 22 will do the job. Is not about the tool but rather how to use it. Unfortunately not everyone has the proper training and dedication on how to efectively use the tool.

Red-Beard, no easy answer without seeing the condition of the edge and how straight is the slide but probably a nice 30 degrees will do

funny you mentioned the 9mm lack of knock down video's. and then the military goes with 9mm's.................FIGURE THAT ONE OUT! our training has been double tap chest, double tap head, double tap chest if bad guy not down shoot at groin area and try and hit femoral artery for they are wearing body armor! empty clip, drop clip, reload clip, rack action back, be prepared for some more! may i never have to do that EVER! try that on an advancing full size bad guy dummy on wheels coming at you faster than you can even think! that drill was from 12 yds !

There is not a projectile in the world from any rifled arm that tumbles, Jeff. The .45 ACP is rifled like any other pistol, so the bullet revolves around its own axis, roughly along the line of flight, just like any other. Even the heavier bullets, like the standard 230 grain harball, are relatively short for caliber. I believe that is where they got their reputation for innacurracy (along with very sloppily fitted wartime 1911's), and why some folks believe they tumble. They don't. They can be extremely accurate out to well beyond defensive ranges, like out to a couple hundred yards.

There are projectiles designed to tumble after impact with soft tissue. A rearward weight bias does the trick. Kind of like our cars in a way; the front is always trying to overtake the rear. Especially under braking, or in the case of bullets, impact. The 5.56 NATO is a notorious one. In an effort to get some wounding capability out of this little "poodle shooter", the standard round is meant to tumble in soft tissue.

Oh, and tabs - beautiful rifles. Those never show up on MY doorstep. You suck. I'm telling mother...

jriera 08-08-2006 01:01 PM

Different objectives, same reason why military went from 308 to 223, the objective is not to kill (easy to handle) but to wound (more people to take care of a single wounded person; doctors, chopper, etc.)

When I use to train police and special forces the training was simple, double tap head, double tap head, double tap head, rinse and repeat, 5 to 15 yards, two clips drills. Gun handling and to know where your partner (and/or civilians) are (lines of fire) where part of the training. Good old days ....
