It arrived today. I'm impressed! It is already semi-customized. Looks great. And the Stainless will be much better for Houston CCW.

7+1 .45 ACP And it's only 23 oz unloaded! I was pocket carrying my 4" 1911 last weekend (Also an alloy frame) and had no problems fitting it in my pocket. This will be a cake walk.

Time to go to the range! :D

Sweet. One of those is high on my list to share duty with my Charter Bulldog in .44 Special. The auto is so much flatter and less obtrusive. Who has them for $699? I thought they were a lot more than that. How is Colt quality these days, after all the bankruptcies, buyouts, management changes, and all of that?

wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy cool! remember to blast 200 rds of 3 flavors and pick which groups best(DUH)! then take it to gunsmith dirty and let him look at it and make recommendations. my buddy lives in houston and is the ex forensic pathologist for houston p.d. worked his way from patrol to detective to pathologist. he swears by .45's and for one reason only. the bad guys dont get up ever again! xxl hawaiian shirts and bush shorts work great here in az. when its 100 bazillion degrees for concealment.

Way cool but I'd have to spend a LOT of time getting proficient with that one. Even so, it'd be for "under-25-foot" situations - pretty much point-blank only. That's okay though - a lot of confrontations are.

Still though, I have enough trouble getting good groupings at 25 yards with my Glock 9mm, much less a "tumble" projectile like the .45. I guess I gotta' get to the range more.

I'm still pretty good with a 30.06 though. :)

"Tumble projectile"?? Boy, the old .45 sure has some old wives tales following it around, doesn't it? Nothing could be further from the truth. It is inherently a very accurate round and can be a very accurate gun. Traditional 3-gun "2700" shooters expect 1" groups from a Ransom Rest at 50 yards from their match tuned .45's.

One of my favorite stories about the 1911 .45 comes from none other than Elmer Keith. Some Army General in the 1930's (who should have known better) was all for eliminating soldiers' sidearms, because he thought they were totally useless (some things never change...). He was making quite a commotion about it for some time before he met Keith one day at some kind of gun industry function. Keith told him that, in his opinion, the General was wrong and that the old .45 was indeed a very usefull weapon. The General's reply was something along the lines of "bull*****. I'll gladly stand out there at about 50 yards and let you blaze away at me all day long. You'll never hit me." Keith put an old metal wash tub out at 200 yards instead. After a couple shots to get the elevation, he ran a few clips through the General's .45 and never missed that wash tub. He never said another word to that General, either.

Use the sandpaper in cars!! the only thing you will do is to scratch the slide (ask me how do I know) ... good files (and patience) is the answer.

Charles is spot on, cycle a few hundred rounds and see what do you like (my favorite is a 155 grain bullet -LWCS- at supersonic speed), I usually use grease pencils and 'score' all the touching surfaces to see any abnormal wear.

All I was planning on just running the paper (1600 grit) on the outside edges of the slde, the ones that are not contacting anything, because they are awfully sharp. I pulled the slide off this morning and noticed a few bits of junk, so a good cleaning and oiling before the range is indicated.

My carry ammo is planned to be 185 grain Gold Dots, which should be around 1050, but probably lower with the 3 inch barrel.

I'll set those targets out at a 1000 yards for ya to....

hey guys heres some food for thought. if you carry concealed use the SAME AMMO AS YOUR LOCAL COP SHOP! do not carry a FULL RACE GUN concealed!!!!! if you are involved in a justifiable shooting(god help you if it isnt) you will be in front of at the very least an intense interrogation by police. and then if there is any doubt a JURY! do not let the prosecuting attorney PORTRAY YOU AS A GUN NUT! (which we all are-im an undercover gun nut) to the JURY OF YOUR PEERS(which in your wildest dreams you think will be your peers-your wrong). the jury of your PEERS will be little old ladies who have never touched a firearm, and retired folk who are scared as hell of CRIME!

you run a hell of a risk carrying anything that has been modified extensively. ramping and a trigger smooth is acceptable. night sites are on the edge. you dont want to look like you intentionally carry a beefed up weapon LOOKING FOR TROUBLE!

if you are involved in a shooting............call 911 ASAP, then holster your weapon and try and remain calm(not reality i assure you). wait for cops to show and COMPLY WITH ALL COMMANDS! do not make ANY STATEMENTS BUT ONE.................I WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK TO MY ATTORNEY! PERIOD! and then expect alot of attention for awhile! serious stuff here that can and will change your life FOREVER!
