Tips for first time ebay selling?

I've decided to try ebay to get rid of a few car related items & thought I'd ask for tips given I'm a first time seller. I've heard people refer to 'feedback' but given I won't have any yet is that a huge concern. I'm listing 2 exhausts from the c3 plus a set of roofracks from my old suby wagon.

Go buy a few small items to build up your feedback first. Most 0 feedback sellers do not get top $$ for their items for obvious reasons.

Feedback is about the only thing a buyer can put his trust into. I won't send a hundred dollars to someone with zero feedback nor will I buy from someone that has less than 95% positive. Have you bought on eBay? It builds feedback also.

I'm nearing 200 with 100% positive from mostly buying. Haven't been burned yet, but did have to file once for resolution from Paypal for $75.

Make sure you cover your butt for packing, postage, and insurance. Accurate description and close up photos with detail help.

Look at peoples feedback, and if possible, look at the actual items bought/sold. A person may have bought 500 baseball cards, and have 99% positive feedback, but now they are selling an item. I could be a whole different ball game.

Also, do NOT have your pay pal attached to your main bank account. Pay pal can freeze your entire bank account for reasons that have nothing to do with you. A person making a fraudulent payment to your account can end up with the account being frozen. I keep an old account at a credit union just for my pay pal.

What a crock! You have to buy things in order to sell your stuff, then your back where you started.

Why not just list these items for sale with online forums relating to the respective items.

Are you selling to make a buck or to make room?

I personally hate Ebay and would never buy anything off of there. Between all the stolen items on there and the scammers trying to steal from you I have not felt I am missing anything.

I sold some stuff off of my Dodge truck on a Dodge truck forum when I cleaned it out of my garage.

ok -thanks for the feedback. I'll stick with online forums for a while & if it dosn't work look at other options.
I'm selling to make some room & two sets of exhausts sitting in the garage makes no sense. They'd be better off on someone's car.

Hey Gavin, I recently sold on ebay for the first time. It was a hoot. I actually got $300 for a piece of guiatr gear that Ive had since the 1980's and expected to get $50 for- it now lives in the US. I think you will less issues with feedback with speciality items (pehpas not the roof racks) in our neck of the woods. Problem is some one looking for 911 exhausts may not be using ebay to do it. Ive bought some quite expensive things on the bay, never had a problem. Well, one little one, but is was resolved.

Stick em up there and have go, its good fun.

Yeah, I'm with Stuart.

I've done nearly 350 transactions on eBay and found the buyers and sellers far more ethical and reliable than Pelicanheads. My rating is 284 with 100% positives.

Be very wary of any feedback below 100%. Unclezak used to have feedback of about 98% because although he cheated about 20% of his buyers, he would sandbag people until the 90-day feedback period expired. Other people intimidate buyers/sellers from giving a negative by offering to retaliate.

These are relatively rare occurrances, and you can see the same thing happening here on this marketplace from time to time.

So good luck, whichever way you go. My feeling is that eBay tends to do a better job of keeping people honest.
