I like to share entrees, or order different appetizers in lieu of an entree.

I see Snowman has stepped up to the plate in an attempt to fill the Mul void.
He's mostly swinging like a madman at the air, but he has put the ball in play once or twice. Big shoes to fill, Snowman. I think you need some triple AAA ball for a season or two. |

go to any indian reservation and count the obese indians. a race that was very healthy until whitey came along with ding dongs, snowballs, KFC, slurpies, marshmellows, doritos etc. ask most women what is the worst thing for a womens diet(if they drink)............BOOZE! hard booze has obviously been the downfall of many races, now how many obese wine drinkers do you see? beer drinkers the same unless they lead a" lay on the couch watch football drink like fish, where are my doritos lifestyle!" i like to drink beer outside sweat like a pig, drink some more and then FALL DOWN then if i'm hungry it takes super human strength to crawl to refrigerator. LOL! |
You are correct in that most mainland Mexicans are not fat. However, that really has nothing to do with whether Mexican food is fattening or not. Mexican food is very calorie dense, especially things like traditional tortillas made with lard. The food is calorie dense because they usually don't get too much of it. Your average Mexican might eat a tortilla or two and some beans for lunch. Here in the US we have 3-4 tortillas with our fajitas, rice, beans and a whole basket of fried chips.
Big Macs are calorie dense foods too, but if one Big Mac was your entire intake for the day, you would likely not be fat... |
Here's another interesting tidbit. There is a theory out there called the New World theory (at least that was its name a couple years ago). Basically it says that the native peoples of the Americas have a propensity to be very efficient in their calorie usage. This is because they had to cross the Bering Strait and make it through Alaska and Canada before getting down to the more hospitable areas of the continent. The people that could not survive on relatively few calories all died out early. Therefore, the people who are descended from that group (American Indians and native Mexicans) all still utilize calories very well, which is why they have a tendency towards obesity and diabetes.
Interesting idea, certainly not proven... |
we have created an american society of instant gratification. and food is a fine example. time is everything. fast food drive ins are always crowded, people eat entire meals while driving. about as annoying and dangerous as cell phones.
NOBODY EATS IN MY VEHICLES EVER! had boss who did that! half of the meal was on the seat, floor, and himself and the stains and smell remained. what a ROACH MOBILE! DISGUSTING! even my kids saw the anti-McD's movie about the guy who ate McD's for a month, and they were disgusted with the end results! |
Rick, that is certainly fiction. that would requite some natural selection and (gasp) evolution!?!?!
sorry, couldn't help myself. Odd thread. Snow certainly is....interesting. For the record I rarely finish meals (except for the bun at Le Saigon...I always finish the last drop of that). And I know that burning the calories is the key. At different points of my life when I've been training (water polo back in hs, bike racing in grad school) I consumed ungodly amounts of calories, mostly carbs. |

it all comes down to INTAKE and EXHAUST! LOL! there has never been a hunting trip in the dead of winter when i came back gaining weight. always lost alot of weight. burning off calories is the key. we americans have really become couch potatoes and our waistlines prove it.
another interesting sidenote. next time you are near a fast food joint or an "ALL YOU CAN EAT" restaurant. note the people and if they are obese or not. the all you can eat visual will astound you!!!!!!! |

intake,output..they don't care..most americans are just FAT, and fat parents arent happy unless the little one's (big one really) are on their way to looking like the rest of the clan.

another tidbit(ha ha) next time you go to McD's, check out what the WORST THING ON THE MENU IS????????
THE FISH SANDWICH! loaded with bad yukky stuff. but the unknowing consumer figures "oh i need to loose some weight, fish has to be good!" .................................WRONG! fast food KILLS! |

Yesterday I spent the day with the kids at Knotts Soak City in CV. Very "large" crowd... Reminded me of that scene in '10' where Dudley Moore is on the Mexico beach and there's a bunch of white whales standing in the surf sipping their pina coladas.
What I've noticed is that the younger girls are embracing the full figured look again. The model/athletic look has been replaced with flab. Girls now wear half shirts to expose their belly, tramp stamps, and piercings. Wife and I eat out maybe 1x every 2 weeks. We never order entrees and instead buy a bottle of wine and split 3 appetizers. Fast food with kids is 1x week after their baseball & soccer practices which go to 8:00 pm. Always El Pollo Loco. Moderation is key...well except for wine :) |
