The Scumacher Pass during red video

I just found this and thought it was interesting.

I wanted to see how horrible this pass was that he did that was so dangerous.

Here you go.

Pass during Red

Maybe its because I am a MS fan but this seems ridiculas.

They were in the last turn to go into the pit. FA decides to practically stop on track MS goes around and onto the pit exit and into the pits.

Then its decided this is on the same level as an intentional brake check temper tantrum on the track. Sorry I do not see it.

I understand there are rules and I agree he broke them passing on the right and entering the pits.

The way this story was presented on TV on Sunday it kind of made it sound like he did a reckless pass that warranted punishment akin to FA's punishment for his brake checking incident.

FA practically stops on track, granted the RULES say you must be behind him even if he stops you must not pass. But to give the same penalty for these 2 incidents seems a little extreme to me.

I agree... I just never like to miss an opportunity to take a swipe at an MS fan

To be honest, it seems that the FIA is having a really hard time managing the chanpionship so that it comes down to the last race.

youtube is offline right now, but red flag is a red flag. It means stop. Not in a manner that will be dangerous to other drivers, but it does not mean slow down and come into the pits...if they wanted that, they'd throw a black.

I think the issue is the severity of the penalty. Maybe that's a one grid spot penalty or something. But 2 seconds? Yeah, that's whack and Bernie doing a little manipulation...

Nostatic, I think you are confusing club red flag rules with F1 red flag rules, here is the definition of the red flag for F1:

"This should be shown waved only on instruction from the Clerk of the Course when it becomes necessary to stop a practice session or the race. All drivers are required to slow down immediately and proceed to the pit lane (or the place foreseen by the regulations of the Event), and must be prepared to stop if necessary. Overtaking is not permitted."

If that is true. It makes the FIA's ruling and punishment 10X more stupider.

The one thing to keep in mind is that the officials at each track rule on their own interpretations on the FIA rules. And it is the stewards at each track that had out the punishment, not the FIA. If this same thing happened at another track, perhaps there might have been no punishment

This is a quote from the Official Formula 1 website, as you can see, Bernie, Mosley, or the FIA have nothing to do with the decision of dishing out penalties and what those penalties should be.

(I know it refers th the Alonso incident, but it makes my point)

Stewards Tony Scott Andrews, Antonio Vasconcelos Tavares and Lajos Herczeg decided that Alonso’s actions were “unnecessary, unacceptable and dangerous”, and awarded him a one second time penalty to be applied to his fastest lap time in each of the qualifying sessions, Q1, Q2 and Q3.

Additionally, Alonso received a similar penalty for overtaking another car after the session had finished, under waved yellow flags.

He will thus get an aggregated cumulative penalty of two seconds in Q1, Q2 and Q3, effectively damning his chances on a circuit on which overtaking is virtually impossible.

If you watch the clip, which I think you tube is down again today, you see FA playing games like he does behind the Pace Car. That fine when its a racing condition and your trying to throw off the car behind you for the restart. But this was practice and these antics could have screwed up someones race if they had hit each other.

MS had 2 choices, slow way down and let them get away from him and drive at his own pace or, what most of us would do simply say enough of this BS, go past and into the pits like FA should have been doing. I personally think MS got shafted and FA should have been penalized for driving like an ass instead of getting to the pits quickly and safely. Instead he had to turn a red flag situation into a game.
