Added The 1st Poster To My Ignore List!

I've never even thought about adding anyone to my ignore list, but I've read such dribble from certain posters recently that seem to add absolutely nothing to the subject matter except their own twisted logic and ill-mannered behavior (that is repeated over and over again), so it just made sense to not even see their posts.

I have to say, this feature is great! I am not an overly sensitive person, by all means, but I agree with some that Off Topic has been pretty bad lately. Instead of trying to silence those individuals, it made sense for me to just self-regulate the content I view.

Some might say if you don't like the content, then just don't open the thread or don't open Off Topic. This does not make sense to me, because I do like most of the content in most of the threads. It is only a select few that I don't appreciate. I do like to see other points of view that I don't necessarily agree with, as long as they are logical, articulate, well thought out, respecting the fact that there are other points of view, and not degrading other posters. Name calling and trying to force your opinion on others just shows that your position is weak.

The ignore list is a great tool, I expect others will find it helpful as well. Now you all can add me to your ignore list. ;)

Scott,
I usually just skip by those postings & threads where I'm pretty certain there is junk content from certain posters. However I'm beginning to lean toward the ignore list option too. The 1% of idiots on here go along with that old saying about one bad apple ruining the whole barrel.

Moneyguy1 08-15-2006 09:51 AM

But, bad apples can make excellent vinegar!!

ANd vinegar can add spice to many dishes....

lendaddy 08-15-2006 09:53 AM

You'll miss me soon:D

Porsche-O-Phile 08-15-2006 09:54 AM

Apples make excellent calvados. . . ;)

Scooter 08-15-2006 10:13 AM

Lendaddy, how do you know that I'm not ignoring you already? Woops, guess you're not on my list yet. ;)

Jeff Higgins 08-15-2006 10:17 AM

Wow, you're right! The ignore list does work pretty good. I just put Mul on mine, and now it's just like he isn't here.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

The best part is that once you get that one poster on your ignore list, 6 page threads shrink to 2 pages.

It's funny, all the other boards where he posts, he is in the same boat!

It's no coincidence that 1/2 the people I've put on my ignore list were later banned. The other half.... I'm sure their time will come. :D

sammyg2 08-15-2006 11:13 AM

The problem is, once in a while you will be tempted to open up a post from somneone on your ignore list and you will spend the next 5 minutes kicking yourself in the butt for doing it.

tabs 08-15-2006 11:13 AM

Dam just when PWD took me off his Ignore list, I make another one...

Scooter 08-15-2006 11:15 AM

What's that Tabs? I can't read what your post says. ;)

tabs 08-15-2006 11:20 AM

I said Scooter is a fkin TOOL....

RickM 08-15-2006 11:21 AM

No one bothers me enough to ignore completely. If it gets to be too much I just breeze over the offending poster(s) in the thread. Even when they go against the grain I may find some humor in there.

Can anyone read this? Hello? Hellllooo? :D

cashflyer 08-15-2006 11:24 AM

Scooter 08-15-2006 11:25 AM

Tabs, your post reminds me of that scene in Almost Famous where the daughter told the mom "fick you" and the mom said she just cursed, but William said "I think she said FICK". I know you said I'm a fkin TOOL with the utmost respect for all the TOOLS out there. :)

NICKG 08-15-2006 12:54 PM

sometimes it looks I am the only one posting...

I recently put someone on my list and I do find myself looking at their post from time to time just to remind myself why I put them on there in the first place. too much bla, bla, bla about stupid crap. Oh yea, his girlfriend is NOT drop dead gorgeous.

Jeff Higgins 08-15-2006 03:32 PM

No one here has ever made my ignore list; I don't even have one. There are people in my office, however, that have been on it for years.

Drago 08-15-2006 03:35 PM

Scoot, I didn't mean to piss you off that much!

Sorry man. Hey, BTW, can I have my ******** back???

Scooter 08-15-2006 04:12 PM

What did Drago say? Anyone know what he said?

LOL. I have two people on my ignore list because I consider them intellectually dishonest. Their absence from threads elevates the intellectual level here a bit.

I can tolerate all kinds of views if there is the slightest indication of mental engagement behind them. Even if they do more pasting than posting.

fastpat 08-15-2006 05:46 PM

The ignore list is for weaklings.

My observation exactly. And I don't have to look at the pictures they post of themselves or the local cattle either.

Okay, I'll modify my severe opinion.:D

NICKG 08-16-2006 08:37 AM

but there are certain people that are SO entertaining that no matter how you feel...you just can't put them on it.

Scooter 08-16-2006 09:00 AM

If you are in the mood, you can still open their post, even though they are on the list. I did that yesterday; it just re-affirmed why they are on my list in the first place. :)

Maybe next week. I should be coming through your area late next week. ;)

I wonder if I can add Wayne and all the moderators to my ignore list? That way I would never know if I did something wrong. :D
j/k
