Just be real careful. That schit is about the most addictive substance known to man right now, somewhere next to crystal meth. It is probably the most commonly abused drug this decade, believe it or not. They wouldn't give my Dad any more of it, and he has terminal cancer.
Not trying to spoil your fun, but it can get ugly fast.

Need to add, I've taken plenty of it between my ruptured discs in '02 and crushed foot in '04. If you need it, you need it. But it left a lasting mark that took years to get rid of. Narcotics feel good, but they're a MFer.

It actually doesn't send me that much...all it seems to be doing is taking the edge off the knee pain so I can sleep. Crystal meth didn't really do much for me either, other than make me grind my teeth. Cocaine on the other hand...
The funny thing is that while you have to worry about the physical/psych addiction from the hydrocodone, it is the acetominophen that is hard on your liver. You're not supposed to take more than 4-5g a day or so...and with the pills I have that means only 5 pills. I need the stuff with the lower acetominophen content ![]() I have a history with opiates and related compounds, both first and second hand. I keep very close tabs on things. And besides it isn't nearly as good as the 12mg of morphine I got in the ER. |

It's funny, (or not), but I've had an ass-load of Morphine several times and that is the one that did absolutely nothing for me besides dull the pain once I'd had enough. The pain it was trying to kill was severe, though, 1X was a kidney stone and another was the crushed foot. I have a high tolerance, and the LAFD paramedics were very generous. They kept asking if it was working and did I want some more. If I was a junkie, I'd make off w/ one of their ambulances while they are hanging out at Jamba Juice on Larchmont distracted by all of the good trim. They must have a serious supply in those rigs....
But I digress...., the HC/vicodin/etc.. doesn't ever give you much of a "head high", just physical, but when you stop taking it your body will scream. I mean SCREAM for more. And when you don't comply, you'll get a little sick and very surly if you're anything like me. You are 100% correct about the liver and the *Tylenol stuff*, (whatever it's called), God help my liver.

everybody's different. For instance a bunch of people here chimed in about constipation on opiates...I don't have that problem. We'll see if I have any probs coming off them once the pain subsides. I've been on other meds though that people have dependence issues with and I've been able to quit when necessary. Althought sometimes it was a challenge.
I wish the vicodin made me happy. I could use some of that. But it just barely takes the edge off the knee pain and makes it a little easier to drift off to sleep. I talked with a friend today who got it after her c-section. She said she was begging her doc for more. So I"m definitely leery of it. But I think I need to take another before bed

I don't like vicodin. Gives me this odd spacey feeling. I would rather just take high dose ibuprophen. But admittedly, when the real pain kicks in (back problems), yeah, give me the dope doc.
Now valium on the other hand....yummy. (No, I am not some dope head.)

Don´t get me started...
After many years of trial and error with different compounds, I have found my body and soul reacts best to a simple cough medicine. Not for pain relief, mind you, but for feeling good. As simple as silly really. Most cough medicines work with a combination of ethyl-morphine and ephedrine. It shuts down the central cough reflex and have a slight decongestant effect. Thats all fine if you have a cough and a swollen throat. Another effect of that drug combination is a sense of calmness in your body and soul - feeling good about yourself and your life really. The ephedrine part also gives you an energy boost. It´s not iv morphine and coke, but rather an resembling effect on a low well functioning scale. And the addiction risk is much lower. The price with a prescription is also very advantageous. Be aware, every person has a unique individual reaction to drugs. This works for me. Hope you are getting on fine with the healing, Todd !

Make sure you take some magnesium with that or after a week on it you will be so constipated you will scream when you dump.

Mmmmm I remember when I had my back operation many years ago, big ole shots of demerol every 3 hours.
Wow. Demerol is the kind. One of those things that is almost too good because we might not be able to handle it. As good or better than morphine IMO. As soon as I was released from the hospital I was off of it and haven't had it since, but I still have the (foggy) memories. |

That is what I'm on right now, not that many though and I hope not to need them after a few more days.

Todd, hang in there buddy. Best wishes to your gal too. It sucks for now, but before you know it will all be behind you. The human body is an amazing thing. To any one who hasn't been banged up, It doesn't hurt all that bad when it happens, but a few days later, that $hit HURTS !!!

my ex roomate (and on again, off again herion addict) said demerol "makes you feel like jesus." But given his druthers, he'd take dilaudid.
Most of the day I just suck it up. I find that advil helps a lot, but the combo of advil and vicodin is much better. It isn't so bad when the knee doesn't move, but when i've got to get off the couch and go to the bathroom or whatnot, the weight shift hurts like a mother. As long as I can get away with no infection I'll be happy though. I'll see what the doc says this week about progress. My target is to be ready for a time trial in November. |

I once thought I was a tough guy who could tolerate pain well. Then, back in '85, I had two major abdominal surgeries as a result of a burst diverticuli. (translation: I literally busted a gut. Damned near didn't make it through the first surgery, but some then new antibiotics pulled me through.) After both surgeries, it was alternate doses of morphine & demerol. Man, that stuff put me out of it! I worried about addiction, but it was so damned painful that I'd gladly show my butt whenever a nurse walked in the room with that needle. It was a fine high, I guess... but boy am I glad the pain is gone.

I always keep Tylenol 3s & oxycodone within reach due to kidney stones. I never take them btw - unless needed - I throw them out & get a new prescription before I use them up. I always get the queasy-spacey feeling others have mentioned & it's not a nice thing.
But I agree Demerol is on a whole different level. I spent 5 days whacked on that one time. Every 3 hrs, you NEED more. Ian
