My new ride...
Well, I pulled the trigger on a new daily driver to replace my 1999 Honda Accord today. I considered a used Boxster, used 3 series BMW and a new Mustang. Eventually decided on the Mustang. Ford is offering 0% financing for 72 months which makes a $30k Mustang cost the same over the life of loan as a $23-24k used BMW or Boxster. I ruled out the Boxster simply because I really need a car that could carry my kids in a pinch and the Boxster absolutely cannot do that. The mustang certainly doesn't have a big backseat, but two kids could fit back there if they needed to.
I had to drive to Austin to get the one I wanted, but here it is: 2006 Mustang GT coupe, Vista Blue Metallic paint with dark charcoal leather interior. Upgraded alloy wheels, 5 speed manual transmission. Dark tinted windows. The engine sounds fantastic, Ford really got the exhaust note right on this car. Sounds like a muscle car should. Drives very smoothly, ride is a little stiffer on the GT, but that is to be expected. I drove it home from Austin today and was very pleased with the highway ride. The manual transmission is very smooth and easy to shift, throws are nice and short. Also came with a nice stereo system, I guess that is standard on the GT model. I bought one of the last two 2006 manual transmission cars the dealer had on the lot, he had metallic blue and metallic red left. I originally wanted black or dark gray. I did find a black one in Austin but the dealer was being a jerk and wouldn't deal at all on it. I bought the exact same car with blue paint instead of black for $1250 less an hour later. I really like the color, in fact the more I look at it, the more I like it. Black would have been hell to keep clean anyhow. I paid right at invoice price for the car, $26,500 to be exact, that is a little over $2000 off the sticker price. Also got the 0% for 72 month financing. I think I did pretty good on the deal, the manual transmission is getting tough to find on the 2006 models and I really didn't feel like driving all the way to Houston or Dallas to save another couple hundred bucks. Anyhow, here is a representative pic of the car, I'll prolly shoot some pics of the actual car and add them tomorrow. Thanks for all the input guys!! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1156825105.jpg |

2). Even if I did race, I bet that a 300 hp Mustang GT could probably take an air cooled 911 in a straight line. 3). If I wanted to race 911s, I would drive....my 911. |
please note the LOL! the devil made me do it! best design ford has come up with since the original. used to own 1970 pasco ford built BOSS 302. buddies pre runner ford truck had 428 super cobra jet! so i was not being anti ford.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1156855760.jpg Yeah, I don't think I'll be doing that, I drive like a grandma anyhow... |
Add me to the list of people who like the new retro Mustang.
|
I'm not usually into body kits, but I do like the looks of the Roush kit (the red car above). Comes with a ducktail type rear spoiler and new front bumper.
Might spring for that in a year or so... Roush also make a bolt on supercharger kit for $5k. Brings the horsepower from 300 to 425  |
Rick,
Nice car... good choice! (Notice that I work for Ford...) |

WHY DOESNT FORD DO SOME OF THOSE AGAIN? |
There is a Shelby out now. It stickers for around $45k and is going for $15-20k over sticker price. They had one in the showroom at the dealership I bought my GT from. There also is a BOSS mustang in the works (I think). Pics of the Shelby below:

Nice car. I also like the new Mustangs. I still have my 1966, and also have owned a 1995 GT. That would be a fun daily driver.
I was in Seattle for one night last week and rented one of those Hertz Shelby Mustangs. While it didn't have the supercharger, it was a fun car. |
that is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy cool. had not seen one, but im living in a cave in cave creek so that explains that. JUST VISUALIZE 30 yrs of techno advances on a BOSS 302 and a BOSS 429 or 427-428 super duper cobra jet........................DROOL!
i ate a hell of alot of 427 chevys up to 3rd gear off the line with my BOSS 302, when they hit 4th they got me. but man did we turn some heads off the line eating vettes for breakfast lunch dinner in the short run! folks had 429 country squire station wagon(woody crap on side), that thing was a rocket! if my folks EVER found out what we did we that station wagon they would have killed us! |

You may not want to let anyone in the many Mustang forums know you have a Porsche. Insurity is rampant in that crowd. Why can't we all just get along? |
Rick - congrats! Nice car! My aunt is considering a Mustang as a daily driver - I am encouraging her to do it!
Enjoy! -Z |
I agree this new body style is the best. I used to have a 2000 GT Vert with a 5 speed. I loved it. I even Autocrossed it once and took 2nd in ESP class. I have lowering springs so I had to run against other Mustangs with full suspension, intake, exhaust. The definatly handle well I was only 0.2 seconds off of 1st place with a basically stock car.
I took it to two different 1/4 miles strips. This was the first car I ever ran 1/4 mile with. I was trying to see how close I could get to a 14 flat. The best I could get was a 14.35. I thought my 2000 looked good. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...3/DSC01928.jpg |
Rick - nice ride. I like the new pony commercials. A Dad and Son in a parking lot - lighing the wheels up. Good stuff, nice car.
So when are you moving to the Big D? If your looking for some decent towns drop me a line. |
