In middle scool, we were required to read Boethius' De consolatione philosophiae in the original latin. Intellectually stimulating to say the least. Really can't beat the Latin classics.

back in the eighties there was a shop in elmsford new york called exotic motorcar, owned by a fellow named jeremiah who had been one of the guys that got piggy's glasses in the sixties film version of lord of the flies.
i was lucky enough to have my 914 up on the lift overnight when the high water mark record was achieved in that low part of town. it took four days for power to be restored. a couple of nice cars got drowned that night.

In all seriousness, one book that influenced me profoundly was "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance." Nobody forced me to read it, but I did, and went back many, many times.

It seems unfair to single out just one book, but I guess that's the one I would go with in a pinch, at least today.

"Animal Farm" and "Lord of the Flies". They are both more relevent today than when I first read them.

The last two books I read were probably books that I was assigned, and that perhaps I did a book report on.......but never read. They're actaully very good.

Least favorites: Romeo & Juliet, Catcher in the Rye. Both were about stupid teenagers whose stupidity ultimately killed them.

Wuthering Heights was such a piece of garbage its the only book I ever used Cliff Notes on...

Nothing else satisfies like some reading that leads you to question if reality is intrinsic or extrinsic.
