Ebay account suspended?

I received the following message from EBAY. I logged onto to EBAY (opened a fresh browser window) and the same message was in "my messages." I have no idea what this is about.

Any thoughts on this?

***************

Dear chuckw911e

We regret to inform you that your eBay account has been suspended because it violates the site policy outlined in the User Agreement:

eBay's services are not available to members who are currently suspended.

Our records indicate that your account is associated with the following suspended account:

terraviewb

eBay does not permit suspended users to register with eBay or use eBay's services under any name. eBay may extend this prohibition to accounts or user names associated with the suspended user.

Due to the suspension of this account, you are prohibited from using eBay in any way including registering a new account. Please note that any seller fees due to eBay will immediately become due and payable. eBay will charge any amounts you have not previously disputed to the billing method currently on file.

Regards,

Safeharbor Department,
eBay Inc

Yeah; he hijacked your account, then got suspended. Email them.

Do NOT respond to this E mail. Contact Ebay on the phone and talk to them about it.

No, I checked that, don't owe them anything. I looked up "terraviewb." The account had several negative feedbacks (but they were private so I could not see what was sold) and now "terraviewb" is no longer a registered user.

Since my account is suspended I couldn't look to see if my address information was altered or anything like that.

So how does this scam work. Someone hijacks my account, lists things for sale, accepts the money and then disappears? How would a second user name play into this?

I was thinking it was a spoof email so I closed that email, started a fresh browser at ebay.com and logged in as usual. At that point the account suspension alert came up.

What the scammers do is "phishing" - they send you an email pretending to be eBay telling you to login or you'll get suspended - if you click on the link in the email, you go to a fake eBay site where they collect your username and password which they then use to hijack your account. You can tell when an account is hijacked because in the eBay ad they tell people to email them outside of eBay since they cannot change the eBay email address without alerting the owner (as the email needs to be confirmed via the old email address).

It could be fishing, I've received several of those, but the op says that he's locked out of his account. He needs to email ebay security.

This is getting stranger by the minute.

I just received a phone call from someone asking for "James" or "George." I told him that he has the wrong number, but then asked if this call was related to EBAY.

The caller said that he had purchased an item from terraviewb (a textbook) but has not received it. The seller requested that the buyer send a money order to an address in Pembroke Pines, Florida to a guy named Jorge Carlos. His email address is terraviewb@aol.com

When the buyer didn't get the item he looked up the user's information and it came up with my phone number, city and state....but the name was James Walden.

The buyer is going to file a complaint with Ebay and call them. I'm going to call EBAY is well.

I'm thinking that terraviewb used my phone number in his profile. When someone else complained his account was suspended....so there must have been a link through the phone number to my account. So I'm thinking that terraviewb was not able to hack into my account(?).

I have the sellers address...

10211 Pines Boulevard #215
Pembroke Pines, FL 33026

A quick google finds that this is a mailbox rental facility.

It's not a phishing scam when the mail is in your eBay messages box.

I have had very prompt response by e-mailing eBay Safe Harbor personnel.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I did "live support" and they referred me to a form to fill out.

I received another call from another buyer that was scammed as well. Only small amounts of money were lost. My guess is that this guy sold a number of small items and disappeared with the money orders. The user "terraviewb" has Maryland as his location...yet when the items sold the seller requested that payment be sent to Florida. The user's feedback was good until these recent sales. With good feedback buyers might not have questioned the fact that the seller was from Maryland...yet wanted payment sent to a mailbox in Florida.
