If you need a pic of AH 3000MKIII master cylinder to see if they look the same let me know. My dad has a 64 BJ8.

Cool, I called VictoriaBritish.com today with the same question and they said they only sell parts and couldn't look at a picture via' email and see if it was the same as the one on a BJ8. I don't think I need one right now though, but thanks. You know, in looking at their catalogue, they sell a set of main bearings for a BJ8 for about $65, my mains cost over $700 at a good guy price. My thrust bearings $275, for a BJ8 $11. I'm seriously thinking of selling the ba$tard.

At those prices you need to be shopping job shops Hugh. FWIW don't sell it, you have one of the most beautiful cars in the history of the world. Selling something like that (without having to) is guaranteed regret. JMHO

Yeah Len, I hear you, but when they only made 1,150 of them in the world, parts are kind of tough. On the other hand, I hope to never pull the motor again in my life. Brake, carb, electrical I can source out for other British trash, its the motor/trannie and body parts where I have to grab my ankles and hope they're using lube.

Its never ending, got the brakes sort of bled (some sponginess) and the vacuum boost bypassed, and I've got an electric fuel pump leak! POS British, I JUST rebuilt that pump 18 years ago. I did drive it about two miles, seems to run OK, the vibration at 3,000 rpm, which is why I pulled the drivetrain, is gone.

Taking the Targa to Cambria for the weekend with the wifey tomorrow. I'll get to the British trash at night next week.

Its jacked up to pull the fuel pump, and with six months of dust on the hood from when I stuck it on a shelf and I won't dust it off (I'll wash it and the rest of the car when I get around to it). Note, those are old/working on the car stains on the floor. The motor doesn't (at least for now) appear to be leaking. But then again, it is British, so time will tell.

Glad you cured the vibe issue. That woulda been a pisser had it still been there.

I blew a shift at the track a couple of weeks ago, and over ran the engine on my 911, so I'm tearing to engine down to do a rebuild. The first step of the process was washing the car before I put it up on the lift. I figured I could live with dust, but didn't want all of the crud picked up at the track on the metal for 2 or 3 months. My buddies thought I was weird, I think.

Yeah there's the problem.

I have a '55 190SL. 7th car off the production line. As far as we know it's the oldest one around. Numbers 1-6 are either gone. Was the display car at the '56 NY Auto Show. 1st 190SL sold to the public and the 1st car sold as a coupe. 1st car to win Best In Class at Hershey it's rookie showing. My family is the second owner. My father bought it from the original owner in '64. Car is 100% original.

While 190's don't command the price of Hughes car the documented pedigree of this car puts it in a different class. We have had numerous 6 figure offers over the years.

But what do you do? Sell it? Fine so you get some cash but if you spend the cash you've got nothing.

To me the car has no monetary value. It's sentimental. You keep them and enjoy them and hopefully pass them along to your kids.

Nice to have something that no one else can.

Ed, makes sense to me. I wish I had steam cleaned the engine and underside on this British Exxon Valdez oil spill before I pulled the engine, it would have been a lot nicer to work on. I did clean the crap out of the engine compartment while I had it out.

The engine is very smooth, the trannie shifted a little stiff, but with newer synchros (new are no longer made, so good used ones were stuck in) it shifted much better after a mile or two of running in.

Good luck on the rebuild. BTW, Ed, I noticed that you have an 84 Targa as well. Mine is metallic platinum with a tail and is an ROW. I'll take some pics when I go to Cambria this weekend and post them on the "Ultimate Targa" thread. I don't have any good pics of the Targa, and need to take some.

Hugh,

Glad to see that its finally working out.

Had to laugh at your photos of your jets. My HD8 SU's use the same jets and know what you mean about them drying out and dying.

Keep it up. I just got a new stainless exhaust for the jag yesterday so that is next weeks project!

Joe

thanks for the insight, its exactly what I'm dealing with, got it for $1,750 put a lot of sweat equity into it and what do I do now. I like the car but really don't drive it.

Mike,

Both cars drive right now, but the Jag has no exhaust. After the exhaust is installed then it will be bodywork and paint.

The 911 still needs headlights, turn signals and misc work done on it. The exhaust works but I have the 993 HE's ready for a new muffler setup.

Who knows which will be first on the road LEGALLY but either can drive right now..

Joe

PS Just got finished with the airplane so its back in the air. Spent the week doing the annual inspection on it, or would have been working on both of the above. Too damm many toys!

It seems to run well, washed and waxed it today. Thanks all for your moral support, after about seven months on the rebuild. I'm a happy camper. My wife is especially happy. Stlll have a few wiring harness clamps and probably an additonal brake bleed, but its time to move on to other more domestic projects. Thanks all for the moral support. There were times where I was getting VERY tired of working on it.

Thanks Guys:

I'm just happy to be done with it (as if your ever "done"). The James Bond one was identified as a DB5, in fact it was the last DB4-Series 5 car made, but was indistinguishable from a DB5. The bike is a Rudge Whitworth which my dad bought in about 1935 from the guy (Canadian) who raced it in the 1930 Isle of Man World Cup.
