new TV and strange channels
I hook up the new SONY to my standard cable line, no box, just standard Comcast cable and I get ESPN HD and lots of other channels in decimals. 79.1, 79.2, 79.3 etc.. What gives?

In theory the decimal channels are the (HD?) digital channels for CBS, ABC, etc. but those should be showing with a normal antenna (Over The Air - OTA) and not thru cable ... unless your cable is acting like a big antenna ....

I've got the same thing (except dashes instead of decimals w/Samung).
As jriera stated, the decimal/dash system is used by the OTA stations to split down to digital and HDTV feeds from the networks, but from the cable it "should" be where the pay per view or on demand resides. Your new tuner is cabable of recieving these w/o a box but should require a cablecard to keep them unscrambled. Sometimes there will be stations that they don't both scrambling. A word of caution if you have kids....if you happen to catch a nice family movie on one of these stations it can and might flip to porn right in the middle. |
