Fast Car - Wandering Star
Is there anything better than a road trip? The spyder is packed (really packed), and I'm heading out the door now from Medford, Oregon. My trip will take me through the mountains, into Reno, then an unstructured wander thru the state enroute to Arizona. A few days to play and then back another way.
My only real plan is I have to be in Lake Havasu City AZ by Friday morning. Between now and then I'll drive, wander, explore and camp. Where I can find internet access, I'll log on and upload pics - because if I've learned one thing from this site it is "This Post is Worthless Without Pictures!!! . Hope to see some of you on the road. Angela ![]()

If you are taking hwy 395, you're going to love it. Be safe and have fun.

I am taking 395 - gorgeous drive. Thanks for the offer of help too along the way guys. I do have an excellent assortment of spares and a good running car, but its always nice to know there is a contingency plan.
Which is why I'm posting right now instead of driving. Forgot the darn gas can. The guage is not trustworthy and it may be a few miles between fill spots! angela

Is that thing original? (Not a reproduction?)

A most glorious fake. But do forgive it, it has a twin-plug 3.2 offering some pretty serious under-the-hood smackdown.
Okay - this time I'm really gone. Check in with you guys tomorrow! angela

Have a good trip.
I was wondering what you were doing hanging out with the lot of us if that thing was real...(I still question why Motion sticks around ![]()

When one says that the Spyder is packed, what exactly does that mean? Is there any storage other than the passenger compartment?

Okay, safe and sound in Susanville at an RV park (in the tent section - last picture). The spyder does not have a huge amount of storage space. When we built it, Steve put the battery in the engine bay rather hidden under the latch on the driver's side. Its a paint to get the battery out, but the run to the starter is very short and it frees the front trunk up nicely for more storage.
For this trip, the trunk has the gallon gas can, all the detailing supplies for the car, a sleeping bag, a bedroll softie (getting old - ground is hard...), the car cover, couple of towels. I was originally planning to take 395, but changed my mind and drove I-5 south to Mount Shasta, then cut over to Susanville. Big mistake... There is evidently a large fire burning somewhere - all the way from Yreka to about 20 miles from Shasta, the air was just awful. No where to get away from the smoke in the spyder. It did finally clear out. Just in time for CAL-TRANS to really get into hurry up on the now DIRT ROAD and wait for the other guy. Got stopped 4 times. Easily added an hour to this leg of the journey plus the added indignity of driving this very clean car over that very dirty muddy rocky dusty road. THe signs say construction to be completed in 2008... The way home will DEFINATELY be a different route! There is a nice view of the Hatfield Valley and Mount Lassen. The view area is new to me, but looks like it has been here a few years. Perfect weather. The car is cleaned and dressed for bed. Probably head that way myself shortly. Funny how the miles on the road have already started to work their magic. Ahhh....vacation... angela ![]() ![]() ![]()

Enjoy the ride! |
