Chicago Hot Dogs

I am going to be in Chicago for a meeting Thursday night, and want to get a good hot dog, where do you recommend.

I have been told Gene & Jude's Red Hot Stand by Ohare, thought I would try on the way to the hotel.

Michael

Portillo's, Portillo's, Portillo's. I've had them all, and I have to say they are all GREAT. This dog is served up the old way and the stores are a treat to look at. You can even order on line, a full order of all they serve, shipped to your door. Have'nt tried this yet, but just your question makes my mouth water. My wife thinks I'm crazy each time I go to Road America, have to stop in Chi-town, get 2 dogs, and then all is well with the world.

no lettuce.

no chili.

no cheese.

no ketchup. EVAR.

D.N.T. relish, mustard, onions, dill spear, tomato slices, sport peppers and celery salt on a beef dog with poppy seed bun.

The dog pictured below is a decent specimen, but I would argue that having them wrapped up in paper right after prepping steams the bun a bit and compresses it into an easier to eat format.

Superdawg is great, order a chocolate malt, not the shake ( which is OK but the malt is better). I also like hot doug's http://www.hotdougs.com/ but they close at 4, so they are really more for lunch. A lot depends on where you are going to be in the city, cause we got lots of great places. I also like susie's on montrose, the dogs are only ok but the fries are great. There is also "gold coast dogs" but we don't go there much. And don't forget the catsup is for the fries, never for the dog, never ever for the dog.

have fun

Is there such thing as a 'bad' Chicago hotdog? Hell, I even tried one from a kiosk at O'Hare between planes and it was great!

Best Chicago dog I've had...at the snack hut on the golf course near my house. I stop by there even when I'm not golfing to grab a couple of dogs and chat up the cutie working the hut.

Curt is right, there aren't too many places that can screw up a hot dog, Chi-style or otherwise. .... wait the dogs at IKEA are not great. Toward the bottom end of the spectrum...but only because they have just ketchup and mustard available. Still can't go wrong with 2 dogs, chips and a soda for $2.50 while you ponder the wisdom of having just purchased a few grand of crap that your spouse got suckered into by the fancy display or catalogue

I usually refer to them as 'deathdogs'. But every time I'm in Chicago, I cheat death and give em a try.

Geez,

No one mentions the Weiners Circle?!

The absolute BEST dog in Chicago is the Weiners Circle in Lincoln Park. Best served at 1AM... Pair it up with some "Cheese" Fries and a soda, then you got yourself a real Chi-caw-goh meal Brutha

If you ask for Ketchup on it, they WILL throw you out.

Re: From New Castlle with love.

If you had brought up Phili's roast pork with sharp provolone and broccoli rabe (rather than the better-known cheese steak) I might have given you some props. Thats a f'ing chili dog.
