Can You Prove Your Citizenship?

Passport, used it yesterday, but leave it at home when not traveling. I believe a social security card is one proof of citizenship. I don't carry that either.

SS card is not proof of citizenship, for border crossing at least, suprisingly enough.

After Dec 31 2006, Passports will be required for all air and sea travel between the US and Canada. For now, ground travel checkpoints across the border still accept a certified copy of the birth certificate plus a photo ID issued by your state of residence. I can't say that you have not gotten away with it, but the voter registration card is specifically mentioned as unacceptable on the US State Dept website. After Dec 31 2007, a passport will be required for all travel by any means.
