Ford GT production ends Sept 21st - 4,038 total production

Ford GT production ends Sept 21st - 4,038 total production.

There are roughly 4,600 Ford dealers in the US and Canada.
The relatively low number is actually impressive considering Ferrari sells about 1200 cars here annually.

Ferrari limits their production though - years waiting list at most dealerships.

I just saw a white/blue Ford GT Sunday, beautifull. Also seen a black one.

I think the Ford GT is a beautiful car. I would love to own one someday, David

They're nice looking, but seem very wide. I always felt the car needed something more exotic than a big-block Mustang engine, but that also guaranteed a lack of tempermental behavior other exotics might have.

But jeez, $150,000+ for a Ford seemed...well...silly.

GTs had 550hp supercharged small-blocks, not big blocks.
Anything with 550hp probably deserves to be called exotic.

Yeah, you're right: it was a supercharged small block - I couldn't remember - which tells me that it didn't deserve to be called exotic because there was nothing exotic about the engine - not when other known exotics have V12s.

Even so, there was that name (Ford) along with that retail price (equating an arm and a leg, the other arm and leg, plus a torso, reproductive organs, heart, mind, and of course, one's soul).

In other words, you, like me, wanted one real bad.

I understand.

I guess the GT's common competitor, the Ferrari 360 Modena, isn't technically an exotic either: it has a mere V8 (not even supercharged). But hey, the Gallardo has a V10.

I'll take two.

Sad to hear. . . Its one of the few products out by Ford in recent memory I truly think was a home run.

The GT40 has one of the most impressive engine bays of any new car I've seen. OK, so it's got a Ford V8 (that's not all bad). But look at the frame and suspension. It's nice stuff.

I heard they killed it because it doesn't meet the new head protection standards. Would have required a taller roof and redesigned cockpit.

A Ford guy driving a GT pulled up next to my 911 a few summers ago in Dearborn and gave me the "thumbs up". I guess he liked Porsches. He took off from the light and all I saw was the rear end for a second or two and he was gone!

Yep - would've taken the Ferrari, even a V8, over the Ford if I was into exotics. Ferrari is synonymous with "exotic."

But again, $150,000+...for a Ford.

Wonder if it suffered the same electrical problems as the new Mustang?

And in true Ferrari fashion, every test I've read, any Ferrari placed against the Ford, handily outperformed the Ford.

So there's performance and exotic nature to be dealt with in this upper class of cars - both of which the Ferrari has over the Ford.

But in the long run, engines don't matter, Kaissen. It's the name, and the car, and the WOW factor, and if that was the case with the Ford, the Ford would not be ending production.

So face it, friend, just as with our discussion about Clay Ford kicking himself off his post, your pragmatism and zeal for American product is eluding your real world reasoning.

The FORD GT was just to bring people into the showroom so that they could shop for a new Mustang. The FORD GT was never meant to be built forever.

Hey Art

Can you get me an emplyee discount at FORD for a GT40?

LOL

dd, you always make it personal.....

Anyway, I am in no position to own either a GT or F360/430. Neither are you. Neither are most of us.

Both are brutally fast. We aren't going to determine whether the Ferrari or the Ford are better at this, that, or the other.

I'm not sure that 'real world reasoning' would apply to an indulgent purchase like a GT or Ferrari or Gallardo. I suppose you buy one because it tugs at your heart, not appeals to your sense
of logic. It's a personal decision.

There are several enthusiasts who have owned both. Do a search on FerrariChat.com and you'll see many past/present Ferrari owners who now (or also) own GTs comparing them. Even they debate which is better, or faster, or more collectable, etc.

I would gladly own one and drive it in anger. If only I could afford it...

Fix the handling? You mean like Porsche needs to fix the handling of the CGT?
