Blackberry Pearl - I like it

I've lived with a Blackberry Pearl for the last week and 1/2 and I like it - Upgraded from the 7100t -

It's smaller, and much thinnner than the other blackberry. ALOT lighter. Fits in a shirt pocket without pulling it down.

Never really considered having a phone with a camera, but nice to have and takes decent photos.

(you just have to up the resolution from the factory settings)

After a little getting used to - the roller ball works well - easier for calender day look ups going side to side.

As Ferris Bueller says "if you have the means, I highly recommend you picking one up, it's so choice"

every time I pick up a Blackberry, I never seem to be able to get comfortable with the UI.

Due to my job change I'm finally switching phones/pdas/carriers. I'm on Cingular now, and picked up one of these for my "phone."

Smartphone running WM5. I've gotten it to sync with my Mac via Missing Sync (over bluetooth even), but haven't gotten push to work yet (the imap client works though). A few bugs and I still worry about trusting my calls to an MS OS, but no show stoppers yet.

The Treo650 will be replaced by one of these as soon as they come out...actually by the 8525 which is the upgraded 8125, faster chip, 3G capable

So I'll give WM5 a try. Some things are cool, but other things are ridiculously convoluted. But such are most OSs...

Still lovin my Nokia 770. Just need a phone that allows bluetooth networking, or I need to make a USB cable to attach a phone.

I have a Motorola Razr. Good reception with Cingular. Sync's contacts with my Mac.

Feels like I'm talking into a cracker.

Hooboy...I just informed myself how ignorant I am of the current crop of electronic gizmos. I clicked on this thread expecting it to be about a new paint color. Hey, it sounded pretty...a blackberry pearl paint.

Todd - it took me awhile to get used to it too (Blackberry UI) - I tried the WM5 and felt so limited by the condensed version -

In my shopping excursions it seemed like it was either a phone or a handheld - like the 770.

The Treo was to big, and I really like having the ability to keep up with multiple email addresses.

So, For what I was using it for - phone first, synch with messages, messages out of the office, schedule address book and easy to use calculator. This one fit best until the next greatest thing comes along.

Ditto!

I've never owned a cell phone...and I've never paid a cell phone bill

Ok IT guys here is what I am looking for.

My new employers have agreed to pay for anything that I deem will make my practice of medicine easier. So, I am planning on a high end PDA and a new cell phone. I was looking at the combo phone/pdas but I'm not sure if they will work as well as having a dedicated PDA and a dedicated cell.

I will need to accept and send calls, possibly also set it up to accept pages, run a planner, probably a patient care tracker, some medical textbooks and references and maybe wireless billing at some point in the future.

Money is no object (it ain't my money, lol).

Suggestions?

I may have to switch to either a Blackberry or a Windows PDA/phone.

I've been living with a Treo 700P for a week and I'm about to chuck it out the window. The thing keeps rebooting and it's so slow. There's this delay when you are punching in numbers or typing notes. Don't know if it's because it's trying to pull down emails or not but it is driving me crazy. Sometimes in the middle of typing, the thing reboots! Its only saving grace is the Bluetooth feature. That rocks!

I have a few more days before the 2 wk trial period w/this Verizon ends. May not wait that long and give a BB PDA/phone a try. Too bad since I've been a Palm Pilot user for years.

My Treo 650 on Verizon has been rock solid once I got it dialed in. Versachat for IM, Snapper for mail...great. I'm still not sold on WM5. I finally got my email functional, but man, lack of a qwerty keyboard for email if brutal. It is nice having the "today" screen. Seems like all the WM guys love to tweak and hack. I've been using pocket pc on and off (mostly off) since it first came out. Some aspects are great (the HW recognition is actually pretty good), but others are kludgy.

Palm is toast though...nothnig to see here, movalong.

Rick, a lot of docs use pocket pc (windows mobile) since you can load lots of med-specific software on them.

I read such great reviews about the Treo 650 and that is the phone I wanted but they've stopped making it in favor of the 700P. Looks like it's time to make a switch to BB or Windows.
