				I've had Better Days

Sunday morning, get up, feed the dogs and my big guy is falling down. He was wobblers and has for a while. Basically a neuro-degenerative disease that terminates in paralysis. Today the paralysis set. But I cannot get a DVM to come to my house to put him to sleep until late tomorrow and at 190 lbs he cannot be moved to en emergency clinic (not that I would regardless have his last moments being stressed in a car or vet office.) So for now we try to keep him comfortable and calm and wait. This sucks. Just had to vent. there have been lots of threads about folks losing their pets here so thought some of you would understand.

SUX, Just think of all the fun, love and good times you have shared with your 4legged family member. I like to think of my pets not as mine, rather they have allowed me to be in thier lives. Good luck.

I feel for you, man. Around here most pet food stores have weekend days when vets will offer in-store low cost vaccinations. Maybe call around to see if you can snag some contact info and get a house call. Always best to put them down at home...which is what I did with my two pups. Tough time...so sorry. . He's a beautiful boy. Regal.

That's a major bummer. Remember the good times, I'm sure there were more than you can count.

I'm sorry to hear that. My Dane is about 10 years old now and also suffers from wobblers. I'm dreading that final day.

Sorry to hear that Gary. I had a similar problem with my last dog. He could not get up one day and we had to take him in. They operated on the spine and things were good for a year. Then we had to do it again. Lasted a couple of years until just after thanksgiving when he had trouble getting up and I thought it was his spine getting pinched again. Turned out the spine was fine but it was a pancreatic tumor that burst instead. We had to put him down and I still miss him dearly even though we got a new pup. All I do in situations like these is the only thing I can do. And that is to avoid trying to explain my sorrows to people who don't have pets or care about their pets, get real drunk and let it all out. For as long as it takes. Then get a new friend. It's so damn tough losing such a loyal buddy. But I can't live without these guys.

I'm not a pet owner - unless you count my two small children - but a loved one is a loved one...PERIOD! So very sorry to hear your news. What an amazing looking dog!!!

Damn! I just got an email from a dear friend. His German Shepherd diagnosed with cancer. Why do we love our pets so? Because they are loyal family members who give us less problems than our children. Gary, I'm sorry...you're going through a grief process we've all felt.

I found myself saying things to them that I had never said to a human. They were the springboard to my relating differently to my employees, my close buddies, and to my girlfriend. Having them has been *the* defining experience in my life, bar none. I learned not to guard the Love within. I miss those darling little fuzz butts.

I am very sorry to hear this, I to love Danes, I 've had five. I lost Scooby, a mantle, at five years, like your male to a neuro problem. Scooby was very large 215lbs and 43" at the shoulder. I share in your loss.

My boy is gone. All dogs go to heaven and I know he'll be chasing squirrels and rabbits soon. Thanks to all for their kind words.

not only chasing, but catching them as well. Although most dogs wouldn't know what to do with them once they got them...I know our Lucy sure wouldn't. He certainly has a lot of friends to play with now... | ||
