The enlightened state of texas

From the state that brought you GWB.

Seems about all they's good fer is shootin' folx; let 'em see a nude statue and they's gonna sue yer ass:

http://www.nbc10.com/education/9936513/detail.html

An award-winning Texas art teacher who was reprimanded after one of her fifth-grade students saw a nude sculpture during a trip to a museum has lost her job.

Its amazing how hung up people are on nudity yet they are numb to voilence.

Its all backwards.

I for one would have no problem with our 5th grader seeing a nude sculpture, better yet a nude painting would not bother me either.

Wackos!

**oops!! Edit** Thanks for reminding me, I am forming my opinion based on info provided which might be biased and/or not telling the whole story.**

Yep. I live here, but I'm not native. It's only my sense of self preservation that keeps me from getting a bumper sticker printed that reads "I'm not a native and I aim to leave ASAP"

It's that "values" thing again......

Sooner or later we will resort to book burning.

Some journalists suck. I have two questions. First, what was the sculpture? Was it a Rodin or a wax rendition of Elton and Bernie in flagrante delicto? Second, was the teacher fired because of the museum incident or was it something else?

1). Texas is capitalized you liberal pinko commie.

2). The article does not say that she was fired BECAUSE she took them to the museum. The article says she was reprimanded after the museum trip and her contract was not renewed several months later. They might be related and they might not. We need more info than a 3 paragraph article.

This is old news. The teacher had other issues. As has been stated here numerous times it is nearyly impossible to fire a teacher. After reading all the articles it looked like they pounced on the one that as lame as it is, stuck.

I especially enjoyed reading #10 from the Fisher Elementary Essentials:

"Be positive and enjoy life. Accept that making mistakes is a part of the process. Learn from them and move on."

Guess they might be able to work on that a bit.

Actions like this are necessary so that we can teach children at an early age that art is frivolous, nudity is shameful, that that sexuality is a taboo topic.

Whadda you want?? Some kind of free thinkers??!!
Next thing you know, somebody's going to be questioning government authority!!

I was removed from a project in Texas once, because apparently I had taken the Lords name in vain while talking about some God damn thing.

Bravo, Lubemaster! Not enough details given in the coverage...just perhaps purposely so?

Do you think we should put all "offensive" art in a back room and card people before they enter?
Maybe we should put David in a room by himself, then have rooms from which to view the art - by placing a quarter in the slot to raise the screen for 60 seconds.

Maybe this is less offensive than nudity..

Or this

Maybe the big problem is that kids ask difficult questions about the body and sexuality... questions that parents are unable or unwilling to answer.

Violence and death, on the other hand, usually is self explanatory.
