Typing along hamfisted and I inadvertantly hit CTL instead of the SHIFT and hit some letter. Next thing I know is I have a sole letter hightlighted sitting where 10 minutes worth of work was. This is haapening more frequnetly as I lose my patience with the computer in general. Can't get the work back no matter what.

So, after the lastest fit of rage where I ripped the keyboard from its mount and destroyed it along with the mount, I thought I'd ask WTF is going on? That keyboard sucked big time anyway. Most of them do, but I have 2 that I can use OK.

No wonder most here don't type long answers. It ain't worth it.

What program are you typing in?

Try hitting ctrl - z if it happens again, thats the "undo" button.

My thoughts exactly. Sounds like you are hitting something like "ctrl-shift-home" which will select everything from where you are currently typing to the beginning, and then once it's all selected anything you type whether it be a space, a character or a sentence, will automatically replace what was selected. In most Windows programs, "ctrl-z" will get all of your old stuff back.

Common problem reported to help desks - and one I have helped my father-in-law with countless times.

You have typed CTRL-a instead of Shift-a for a capital A at the start of a new sentence.

The CTRL-a selects all the text in the document which is the replaced by the next letter you type. The single letter you have on the screen is the one following the A which replaced all the highlighted text.

The simple fix a most people have already suggested is to 'Undo' - use CTRL-z or just the undo button - but you must do it straight away - DON'T save first.

Thanks much. There is no "undo" button when typing a PM, etc., so the CTL z is good to know. Might save the next keyboard or whatever else is handy to destroy.

Yeah, it was a b!tch of a day. I was lookin' to cave somebody's head in all day. Fortunately for me and the overcrowded jails, that didn't happen. I know when to keep myself locked up.
