Can anyone write anymore?

Can anyone write anymore? Is anyone else appalled at the poor level of grammar, punctuation and spelling today - esp. on this site? And I hate to say it, but it's especially prevalent amongst the young "posters" to these pages.

I know there are some who like to use "IM" writing, but I'm not talking about that.

And I am not without fault myself of course - and we can all make typos when we types with speed, but I'm afraid it goes way beyond that. And to think, in my neighborhood the public schools are spending a little over $10,000 per child - for what?

I actually agree with you. There was another thread about this topic a few days ago, which resulted in dropping the popularity index of rammstein considerably on this board.

Yes, executives and management consultants can write and communicate very well. How do you think people with liberal arts degrees from Ivy League schools get such amazing jobs?

I have friend who started with a well known private consulting firm right out of college. Good school, but silly degree. But she was an excellent communicator and rose quickly.

People who can write rule the world, much to the consternation of those who can DO, but aren't very good at telling others about it.

EDIT as far as i know , it's allowed

Parenthetical phrases in sentences may include the following:
Address: My father ate the bagel, John.
Interjection: My father ate the bagel, gosh darn it!
Aside: My father, if you don’t mind my telling you this, ate the bagel.
Appositive: My father, a jaded and bitter man, ate the bagel.
Absolute phrase: My father, his eyes flashing with rage, ate the bagel.
Free modifier: My father ate the bagel, chewing with unbridled fury.
Resumptive modifier: My father ate the bagel, a bagel which no man had yet chewed.
Summative modifier: My father ate the bagel, a feat which no man had attempted.
Any phrase that interrupts the flow of the main clause:
My father, chewing with unbridled fury, ate the bagel (free modifier).
My father, in a fit of rage, ate the bagel (prepositional phrase).
My father, with no regard for his health, ate the bagel (adverbial phrase).
My father, despite his lack of teeth, ate the bagel (adverbial phrase).
Years following dates (in American use): My father ate a bagel on December 7, 1941. (See #8 below.)
States following cities: My father ate a bagel in Dallas, Texas, in 1963.
In each case, the parenthetical (as if in parentheses) is both preceded and followed by a comma, unless that would result in doubling a punctuation mark.

EDIT2 , and even if it isn't , i can't be bothered, it's my 3rd language, and i'm better at it then some, if not many, americans

Really, I'm just yanking your chain , but if you want get technical about it, it's a superfluous comma - there's no need for it. This page lays out the rules pretty succinctly:
http://leo.stcloudstate.edu/punct/comma.html

Basically, your sentence "i've yet to meet any exec, who writes his own propaganda" is one single complete statement, thus no need to break it up.

It's the old "Eats, shoots and leaves" thing.

I work with an amazing woman who can charm any customer. She's eloquent, patient, a great listener and can really think on her feet. We don't let her write though because she can't spell **** and can't assemble a paragraph without run-on sentences.

It is pretty appalling when grown people w/ HS diplomas write "could of had", or "piece of mind" w/o realizing the error. Good old public education, we could have saved a boatload of cash on them w/ a used copy of "Hooked on Phonics".

Ok, I know you're really going to want to kick my ass, but... there was no parenthetical phrase in your sentence.

Absolutely true, and the fact that you can even understand the subtleties of the comma use proves your excellent grasp of the language. I consider myself "almost" fluent in French, and there's no way I could have this conversation about such a nit-picking little detail about something in French!!!

Grumpy,
I write for a living - this is playtime. Now that is different than worktime. Work product is polished, focused, and well compensated. It is much like game day. Playtime (the OT) is a time for frivolous abandonment and a joyous spew of rants, quips, and rebuttals.

$10,000 per student? Wow! I hope your hard-earned tax bucks are being watched. I know that our town leads North Texas in money spent and thank the good Lawd that our students get into more top-notch universities than any other school district. You best keep a close eye on that school board of yours. That is a lot-o-cabbage to fund a kid that cannot spell ‘immigration’, locate Idaho on a map, or explain the transitive property.

(not saying that your school kids can't do that...)
