What the election campain will be about
Last night, Fox news was talking about stem cells research. Tonight, it is abortion. Tomorrow, I bet it will be gay mariage...I get the feeling that this election campain is going to be focused on the petty, meaningless issues, because nobody will want to be deal with the important ones: Iraq, health, education, social security.

"What the election campain will be about"
it's about motivating the base and winning the swing voter.

I tend to agree.
The primary motivating factors: Hate Fear Anger Mistrust Desire to retain (or obtain) power Just for starters. Campaigns are a window into the souls of most candidates: empty, vain, egotistic, misleading, self-serving. The few that rise above the many, sadly do not stay that way for long, and that is perhaps the very best argument for term limits: My suggestion: No Senator can serve two consecutive terms, but may run for terms six years apart No House Member can serve more than three consecutive terms, and will be ineligible to run for a period of four years Any other ideas?

...and we can't agree on any of them much less the important ones.
I don't even know what the point is anymore. We need a revolutionary group of individuals in Congress to step outside party lines (regardless of party) and party money.

Bahhhh. Term limits are useless. Here in Kalifornia the pols are playing musical chairs with political offices. It's all the same names and faces, but instead of spending a career in one political office they have to move from office to office. They actually trade jobs with each other. You be county supervisor, and I'll take the state legislature position, and then on to D.A., and so on, and so on.

"Any other ideas?"
eliminate pork/earmarks 100%. That will be a serious start of reforming a dysfunctional system.

Re: What the election campain will be about
Quote:
Education is a mess because the lawyers have mandated all kinds of services to be paid for at tax payers expense for special ed and special needs children, as a result kids that can learn are short changed, NCLB scores hinge on getting that last 1/10% to pass an exam, never mind the mastery of the subject. So a disproportionate amount of resources go to that fringe group. The unions are also partly to blame, anyone else think it's inane to pay a gym teacher or art teacher the same as a Math or Physics teacher? SS is a mess because 30 yrs ago it was decided that current ss $ would be comingled w/ other income taxes and spent. An IOW was issued, now that the day those IOUs are coming due the govt.(mostly those on the right) is squirming and looking for ways to duck their responsibility. People have spent decades plqaning w/ ss as 1 leg of their retirement now some(GOP) want to yank that leg from under them. Iraq never would have gone in there myself but the pottery shop analogy is useful, We broke it, it's ours. Neither party has a reasonable plan as to how to fix it.

My wrong, stem cell research and gay marriage are not the pettiest issues. I had forgotten that what this election campain will mostly be about is the sexual orientation and sometimes perverted taste of the candidates, such as that of senator Allen`s opponent:

Bill, I think you've got the right perspective. That's what I think about SS also. We have guys railing, justifiedly, against gubmit but not holding it accoutable for the SS problem. There again, they broke it, they fix it. Same on them, and shame on us. That retirement assistance is a promise, and my America keeps its promises.
The elephants and the donkeys have both left quite a mess. LOTS of elephant poop around at the moment. And yeah, there are forces hoping to minimize issues like Iraq, Social Security, health care, deficit and education, and make the election about morality and religion stuff like gay marriage and divisive issues like abortion, gun control and stem cell research. There is a group that hopes voters will see the forest, and a group that hopes the view will be obscured by trees.
