rattlsnak- Looks like you landed another job. A friend of mine in SBP owns a 135 operation with a bunch of Citations (Xs, Excels, CJ2s & 3s). He really wants to move up to the Sovereign at some point. The straight wing combined with the X fuselage apparently makes for a very capable airplane.

Porschepilot- That's a nice B there, or at least a straight 35 with the speed slope. I hear that 2 blade is good for another 4 or 5 knots over the 3 blade.

I talk about the Pinnacle accident with my other crewmembers a lot. It's sad that they just weren't paying attention and goofing off. From what I understand only one engine core locked, the other one was fine until they didn't follow the relight procedure correctly. Not that I would want to dead stick a CRJ 200 into a field but it seems like they rolled it over instead of flying it all the way in.

I wonder what will come of the Moscow accident. I don't mess around with ice at all, in fact all of the CRJ is considered a critical surface even the fuselage. The CR7 can go with contaminants on the fuselage but of course the wings/tail are critical.

Agree about the T-6 and have seen some very nice low time examples outside the states. Dammit, I want to win the lotto and get a F-86 but not looking like thats going to happen.

Regarding the Pinnacle accident. Those guys had their heads up and locked. Not going to say that they deserved it but they sure were not professional in how they flew. Its one thing to have fun, but another thing to throw away your lives and the airplane in the same maneuver, and they did.

Now sports fans... regarding the Moscow accident. Here are the latest pics. Am in Berlin now and the bird was flying from Moscow to Berlin to have maintenance on the nosewheel steering. Observers said that the plane was taxi'ing out "funny" but I just do not see how a NWS issue can cause any plane to flip on its back. The nosewheel steering system is out of the picture past 80 knots and once you hit V1 its off of the runway. Something else happened here and it will be interesting to find out what.

Two of the crew are in a hospital, in a doctor induced coma. One third crewmember is in the hospital but supposedly doing fair. The bird was being operated by Tag Aviation out of Switzerland.

I hate to Monday morning quarterback but Joe do you think they may have had a NWS (nose wheel steering) problem during takeoff and tried to go anyway? I could see a situation where the NWS started malfunctioning and the pilots pulling the nosewheel off (soft field style) and trying to continue. We both know the CL hard wing does not like slow speeds so it wouldn't be too far fetched to think something like that would cause a loss of directional control. As Pinnacle demonstrates you don't know how dumb people are going to be until something happens.

Have you ever had NWS problems? I've had in the CL65 is a STEERING INOP caution message that was quickly solved by cycling the NWS switch. Occasionally on the 50 I've had it disconnect on tight turns on the ramp but that's it. The Brasilia on the other hand was a pain when it came to the steering.

Ringmeister- Have you gone for a ride in the Spartan? Does your brother in law have a buffer with your name on it when you come to visit ?

The official report we read on the PCL accident was that both engines did core lock, but anyway yes, it was poor airmanship for sure. The NWS INOP message on the CRJ happens just about everytime you start to taxi from being pushed back, or in tight turns. The Moscow thing, is interesting. I cant understand if they knew it was a problem, then why did they go? I understand what you are saying about short/soft field takeoff, but geez, they do have to LAND at @ 145KTS.! That being said, if it did become a problem, how did it cause this? Unless the wheels took a sharp turn and the wingtip dipped down hit the dirt and they cartwheeled?

And yes, I finally left the Regionals for greener pastures!

Have had the same as you and normally recycling the NWS switch on and off fixes it. I just cannot see a NWS problem causing a crash like this.

This one will be interesting to figure out. At least everyone got out alive and hope we can prevent it from happening again.

Scott- I'm always up for talking about airplanes and Porsches! I hope it wasn't you but I saw a red 996 pulled over by the Highway Patrol on 405 southbound in Seal Beach around midnight Monday. I was on my way home from LAX.

Joe- It will definately be interesting to see what the results of this accident are. I wonder if the authorities in Russia will release information on it.

Did you guys ever see these pics? They are of a 767 that had an uncontained engine failure during a ground run. From what I understand the captain wrote the aircraft up for an N2 split greater than 2% on the flight in. Maintenance was running the engines and after trying to duplicate it for some time they pushed the power up (obviously for the last time on that engine) and a rotor burst sending shrapnel into the wing, fuselage, and the right engine. Totalled the airplane. Not a good day.... What do you think the Air New Zealand guys were thinking?

Here's one of my dad and his plane. The engine was recently rebuilt and the prop was just just balanced. Saturday will my first flight in it since the prop balance. Dad says it is really smooth. It is a Bonanza B36TC.
