This puts a smile on my face in my spare time.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1253581841.jpg Its a 1949 Aeronca Sedan. Not many left, only 541 made and about 200 of them flying these days. Most are up in Alaska or the Yukon flying as bush planes. |
Very clean looking Joe!

This is what I get for being gone so much. Have missed this great thread.

I set this airline up in LAS for the Japanese tourists to get out to 'the ditch' and back in time for gambling on arrival day. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1253582209.jpg The F27 flies just like a big J3 Cub. It was a delight to fly, as long as you were in the left seat. The RR Dart engines required a guy who was good at hanging wallpaper with one hand sitting in the right seat. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1253582240.jpg Gotta take care of the boss' and his airplane too while doing the above.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1253582325.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1253582373.jpg One of fav places to land and watch the daily arrivals of the 'heavies'. One of his 'poker buds' wanted one 'Just like his'..... we pulled another MD87 out of the desert tanked it up, and 'Voila'... flew it for a while just to shake the bugs out. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1253582884.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1253582933.jpg Adios... gotta fly! |
Mike,
Very nice photos! You need to come fly with us for a while. Cockpit on the 605: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1253592487.jpg |

This thread makes me really reconsider what I previously considered as 'attainable wealth'. In conclusion, I now realize that I will not ever fall into this category...

Wow, the cockpit of that 605 is beautiful - it looks extremely well thought-out and clean. And I'm not a fan of glass cockpits either.
What's the significance of the livery on that black & white bird? |

Lately it seems like all of my rides were 'showy'. Joe; Looked into that NorCal D/O job, was for two S/E turboprops. They had just finished a safety 'standown' from their POI. I didn't really want to be involved. My situation has changed pretty radically here in the last week or so, we may have to talk. Michael. |

Ahh, I understand. You're a "lucky" guy. ;)

I have not read this entire thread but that one pic of the P-38's did look like Glacier Girl. I got to see her this past weekend at the Reno Air Races. Did not know she was gonna be there. What a treat

Dave, Yep, its a very nice cockpit. The approach plates can be pulled up on the #2 MFD and you can follow the plane moving around on the approach or taxi chart. Very good safety aspect. |
Glad to see my old thread resurrected. Mike, you sure get around.;) Nice rides - would love to sit down and hanger fly with you sometime.
Yes, the P-38 was Glacier Girl flown by Steve Hinton. A great honor to fly with him. As a very sad note, the P-40 that I was flying is no longer. Both pilot and aircraft are gone. Here is the ride that I replaced that SAAF T6 with. Another Third World country - Spain. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1253624418.jpg |

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1253631609.jpg This is the 601 3A-ER I fly, sorry for the bad cell phone pic. It does have a nice EFB setup and some important upgrades. I'm sure you guys use the Tempus system for medical emergencies, it's an amazing piece of equipment. |
Jess, I am also rated on the 601 and 604. I always used to crack up having to keep the fan speed chart out for climb (It's there in your pic, on the F/O's yoke).
The routine was set takeoff power (note in the pic how 'tall' the throttles are standing...) and leave it until top of descent, and fly the wing in cruise. But you had to 'manage' the throttles in climb to keep it from overspeeding as the air got thinner, or there was a temp change. That really IS an amazing plane. Unless you want to talk cruise altitudes or cruise Mach, that plane (had the same exact interior volume as the G2/3) would do the same trips with the same number of people as the Gulfstreams on 2/3's the fuel (14k vk 22k pounds). |
Here is Glacier Girl at the Reno Air Races. What a story !
I know the thread is supposed to be about personal airplanes...wish I had one. :( http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1253634138.jpg |
