Tim, yeah you might have although I am not sure that I have been at the Warbird picnic for a few years. I usually hang out at the NATA trailer or another T6 member's camper. Well, we will for sure have one next year!

Scott, yes, that's my old Citabria with inverted fuel and oil.
Now owned by a nice man who flies her every day. Learning to fly acro AND tailwheel was a priceless experience. I miss the airplane dearly.

What is NATA? I always camp under my Pacer's wing usually about even with the Ultralight area in Classic airplane camping. I have a bunch of friends who commandeer the same 4-6 spots in the campground each year that I usually spend my evenings with drinking beer and telling tall tales.
I hate camping with a passion (got my fill in the Army Reserves), but Oshkosh is worth it. It has been on my "must attend" list for the past ten years, I wouldn't miss it for the world (even if it has changed a bunch over the years).

Any of you guys fly for Continental? My butt sits on an ERJ out of Newark a few times per month...a bit tight for a 6'4" passenger but a great jet...Seems like CO has gone to the ERJ's for anything <3 hours, bigger jets for longer...
Anyway great thread, love the pics especially as a 50K-100K per year airplane passenger, keep up the good work... Adam

Tim,
North American Trainer Assoc. They are the governing body for formation training and qualification, as well as, technical information and database. All the T6, T-28, T-34, Yak, and L/O aircraft that you see flying formation at airshows are qualified by NATA. It makes sure that everyone has been trained and is using the same techniques, so we safe and consistent. I am a lead qualified formation guy and have been doing that for about a dozen years (boy how time flies). I used to be the "young guy" - not anymore. I am going to request check pilot qualification in the next couple of years. Camping? Only at OSH. As they say, my idea of camping is the Hampton Inn. in '05 we brought a pop-up camper and that seemed like the Taj Mahal compared to tent camping. You still had to use those damn showers and port-o-potties! Yuk! We may camp next year (in Warbirds camping) and if we do, I will post in my thread. See ya.

Now that is one gorgeous Stag! What a shot! Our former family bird is based in AZ - in the Phoenix area, I believe. It has an orange fuselage and cream colored wings if any Pelican in AZ knows it. N44562 - she was a great bird and was the "family truckster" for many, many years having transported us numerous times to FL and the southeast, as well as CO and CA. I regret never having checked out in her. I'll post another one... Here is the T6 gathering before OSH at my home airport in 2005. Not the best showing at 35 aircraft, but good nonetheless. We had close to 100 several years ago for the 60th anniversary of the T6.  Keep the pics coming!

Scott, is that Waukesha or Waukegan (or something like that). I stopped there a few years ago to wait out some weather on the way to OSH. I decided to fuel up and was told that I would have to wait a bit as you guys had used up all the fuel that day practicing formation and another tanker was due in soon. The amount of fuel and oil used each year by the warbirds is just mind boggling! Kudos for you guys who foot the bill to show your historical birds to the public each year!

Tim, my home base is Aurora (ARR). That is where this picture was taken. We switch with the Kenosha, WI airport as they were the original location for us. What a hoot about the gas and oil shortage! Sorry about the delay. If I had my choice it wouldn't use so much gas. As for the oil, we just taxi up to the pumps and tell 'em to, "check the gas and fill up the oil." ARR is a great place for sport planes - we have quite a number there. The controllers are very accomodating to us formation types and we appreciate them dearly.

Ah... Kenosha.... That must be where I was at. I get all those Waukegan, Waukesha, Kenosha places mixed up as I only travel thru the area once a year at Oshkosh time. Never stopped at Aurora as I shortcut up the coast typically.
It seemed odd the year I was at Kenosha to see a landscape trailer converted into a 55 gal oil drum transporter/dispensor! How much does that T6 wolf down? 25-30 GPH ? (I know the cost of Avgas is pocket change in the overall scheme of of things when it comes to the cost of owning and operating a warbird, but it still boggles my mind based on the costs I am used to.)

Tim, 35 GPH is what I typically plan for. Can be up to 45 if I am doing high power acro. Yeah, she's a thirsty bird, so you have to pick and choose your flights carefully when Avgas is 4 bucks a gallon. By the way, Tim your Pacer looks really nice. I tried to get a friend of mine to buy one of the PA-20/PA-22 conversions with the 180HP engine. I think they are great airplanes plus I wanted to be able to fly it. Also, did you say you are building a One Design? Very cool! Have fun with the acro - I love it.
Hey guys in addition to posting airplane pics, how about seeing your cars too? This is, after all, a Porsche site. My recent acquisition...
