Great idea! Now that would make a cool R Gruppe car. Naw, I was planning on installing it on the T6.

Maybe, but they even matched the fuselage and wing impact locations to the tree limbs, skinned the bark, and broke off a large limb to fall over on it. They musta' been artiste's.

No game here, it was a real accident. Look at the impact points and wing into the tree. Would love to find out the real story but this was no prank.

Joe,

I'm with Pat on this one...I had suspicions from the start: Way to conformal without scarring marks. The physics are wrong as well. No way a limb that size doesn't fracture given aircraft velocity and weight...phenominal forces on impact.

I never went to the Naval Safety Center for accident investigation, but I have been the President of two mishap investigations at the Class A level...if I'm wrong about this one the beers on me later this month if you're in AZ!

I think it hit a tree per the report, just not this tree.

maybe they hung it on a big crane, and swung it in that tree , wrecking ball style...

There are limbs behind the empenage, no fracture points on the leading edge of the wings...I could go on, can you?

Edit: NTSB will not generally leave wreckage in place...given the fact that the engine is gone is a key as well.
YFNMMV.

if it's a real impact, and i'm verrry skeptical as well, the pilot is to be commended and probably would have survived this impact. it would have had to be going so slow as to below stalling speed (i know, i know..it couldn't) and stalled at just the precise moment. i think 'god' would have had to have had a hand in that tree landing...lol

Every sailplane I ever flew had one of these on the windscreen. You always could count on it to tell you what was going on.

don't fighterjets have some kind of thread/yarn thing hanging in front of the cockpit/windshield??

can you explain what exactly that does? is visual aid for stall? or spins?

Shush, you weren't suppose to reveal that, pilot's oath, remember? Purple robes, candlelight, midnight rides?

Just don't mention the "MWNF".

TAke three drinks of a good scotch and call me in the morning. I'm sure this "breach" was only temporary. Send the robe to the cleaners, you don't know where it's been lately.

Okay, okay, just this once. It indicated the airflow over the outside of the aircraft, including yaw, and pitch too if the flow separates where the yarn is taped.

It's a low cost angle of attack indicator in some instances. Depends on where you put it.
