Driving Tickets

I have a serious question that I would like to ask a felllow pelican member(any) about the methods of getting a ticket. I had a strange experience tonight and I dont know if I actually got a ticket. So just reply and tell me what the cop needs to do so u KNOW 100% that you got a ticket.

It was speeding btw.

He should give you a hardcopy of a citation you signed. Is this what you are asking?

thank you! Whew you just made my night! And no I didnt sign anything. What happened was it was an unmarked SUV, two of them actually. He was tailgating me in a 45 zone and I had a car to my right. So I sped up so he could pass me on my right. As soon as I hit 50 mph he turned the lights on, like instantly. I guess they were looking for drunk drivers.

yeah asked for license and registration after he told me I was going 50 in a 45. Walked back to his car with my id..came back 3-4 minutes later and told me to remember it was 45 mph and to have a nice night.

You got a warning. Heed it. I'm fairly certiain they can put a record of warnings in your file (although you have no way of knowing whether or not they did, since it's a private law enforcement datatbase). Next time you get stopped, if there's a recent warning on there, the cop will be much more likely to give you a citation.

Just something I've been told by a couple of cop buddies of mine.

You did not get cited. You would have had to sign the ticket with a promise to appear at court. Also, there is not database for warnings regarding violations, at least in SoCal.

Happy driving, David

I don't know about Texas, but here in MA the officers don't usually have you sign the ticket...but it is handed to you prior to leaving.

In any case, if you were cited you'd sure know it.

You just got a verbal warning. For a ticket or warning ticket, you would have been required to sign. Also in Texas, warning tickets do not go on your permanent driving record.

For what it's worth, I received a warning ticket from a TX DPS trooper a few weeks ago. He entered all the ticket info on a laptop in his car and a copy of the warning ticket was displayed on a notepad type device which I signed. I did not even get a copy of the actual warning ticket. I assume if it had been an actual speeding ticket, I would have recevied a printed copy ?? At least with the TX DPS, the days of the hand-written ticket are long gone.

No you got a wreckless driving ticket - thats how they do it now. You should show up for court Monday and tell them what you did.
