Gerry Studds admitted to having gay sex with a male page in 1983. He refused to apologize for his behavior. He remained in the house until 1997, despite call for his expulsion by Republicans in 1993. But Democrats controlled the House at the time and they will protect their own no matter what.
Where was the outrage from the democrats back then? Studds went way beyond a few suggestive emails! Why were they so outraged by Mark Foley? The reason: To alienate the Christian right from the GOP shortly before an election for political gain.

I thought this Haggard story was just another morality play about hypocrisy and the dangers of self-righteousness. Then I read Haggard's letter to his congregation...
I am a deceiver and a liar. There's a part of my life that is so repulsive and dark that I have been warring against it for all of my adult life. That last sentence just broke my heart. That poor man has spent his entire life drowning in a pit of self loathing. And for what? Because he likes men? It just makes me want to cry to think anyone has had to suffer so much over nothing. NOTHING. I refuse to believe that Jesus would approve. My heart goes out to the guy. I wish him well.

I didn't see the entire letter, but from what I read of it, he sounded sincere ... not one of those half-assed apologies designed to begin the climb back to power immediately.
If every there was an argument that being gay is some voluntary "choice" that one can turn on and off at will, just look at this man. Do you really think he "chose" to become the type of person he preached against his entire life? He is a homosexual male. Exactly why, we don't know, and perhaps never will. But we can rule out "because he wanted to be homosexual." Anyway, I wish him well. If this doesn't break him, let's hope he emerges stronger and more inclusive and accepting of other lifestyles.

And that is the true nub of the problem.
The internal agony of being "taught" what is wrong and sinful and what your own internal moral compass tells you must be painful beyond belief. No judgement here; just an observation that we are, as a race and as individuals (a) flawed and (b) too quick to judge others.

Not that I'm behind it (pun intended), but nature's goofy on this, as well.

sorry, but in my opinion, being gay is a problem only to those that think it is "evil" and to the unfortunate souls that are the target of their intolerant wrath.
Nature also has plenty of examples of parents eating their young. Should we endorse that as the "natural" way of things? mmm, fresh baby... |

You are quite the stone thrower ... must be nice to be so virtuous.
Oh wait .... so was Haggard. Before he got caught.
