No trick-or-treaters ?

Well, Halloween has come and gone once again.

I have been in my current home for 3 years. Last year and the one previous, we saw only a small number of trick-or-treaters and were left with way too much candy leftovers. This year, I only bought one bag of candy - which still sits unopened on my countertop.

No trick-or-treaters. Not a single one.
Not over the weekend, and not last night.

In another thread, I read that Mike mentioned an "ever-dwindling number of trickotreeters".

What happened?
Where have all the good times gone?

I guess it depends on where you live. I live in an older neighborhood with sidewalks on both sides of the street. Had a lot of trick or treaters.

Live in the country, no trick or treaters... of course, with one house every half mile or so, its understandable. We packed the kids up and went to my brothers house in a subdivision - plenty of kids there.

I live in a 5 year old subdivision with sidewalks and streetlamps.
And there are kids in the neighborhood, also.

It's not like they just avoid the cranky old bastards house... I didn't see any kids at all in the 'hood last night.

We had around 150 or so kids, which was a very small turnout compared to last year. Kind of depressing..... where have all the trick-o-treaters gone?

Cashflyer - that's just bizarre. Do they go to the mall?

We had some teenagers that put 5 seconds of effort into dressing up. After the took a bunch of candy, I told them the trick was on them...some of it was exlax...they'd figure it out themselves which ones.

In the old days we'd bother the cranky old man, because it might even be a little scary, and maybe you got to play a trick. Nowadays, too many stories of tainted candies, stolen children, fast cars in neighborhoods (see other threads) etc. Lot of concerns out there for parents. Therefore, it has become very popular for a "safe neighborhood" to get outside kids, and others which aren't as well known to have their kids exported. Other changes are more parties etc., where the kids are a lot more controlled by the parents.

Mine went in-neighborhood with my wife, only to people we know.

I had only young kids come by, all escorted by parents. Maybe 15-20 in all.

I don't get it. Ours is a pretty safe town that still sort of embraces "old fashioned family stuff". You'd think the streets would be thick with kids last night.

Oh well, maybe this gets added to the "things your 2yo won't ever know" list.

Well, other than Vasteve's threat...Remember the razor blade story? I recall several others which were regional and prob did not make natl headlines. And don't forget the general unease with things like GHB etc which happens to adults.

We went to a new neighborhood with street lights and sidewalks on both sides - lots of little ones, people were running out of candy.

I think people tend to travel to the newer neighborhoods with lights, walks and the houses built close to each other. The older neighborhoods around my place have larger yards, houses set back off the street, no lights and no walks.

1.5 bags here, I was happy to see that it was all little kids, mostly escorted by parents. I hate it when the teens are still going door to door.

Same here.

In other parts of town, I had friends report 300-400 at their houses.

My neighborhood is about 30 years old. We mostly have either people who have owned their houses since new with grown children, or young couple (like my wife and I) who either don't have children yet or whose kids are under 5.

We had almost none as well and we're in a pretty quiet neighborhood in LA, the past couple of years we have had a few but this year i don't think we had more than 10. It was odd to be sure.
