Just in case,
get some Pedi-lyte..the kid stuff / water is great, but until he gets back to snuff, this stuff really helps with dehydration.

Great news. I am glad it wasn't IMT from vaccination. They are pretty tough creatures. Thanks for the update.

Glad to hear that things seem to be moving the right direction.

targa911S: "...he barfed all over our house today."

A good dog'll do that.

Good to hear that he's back with his pack.
Post a photo of all three when you get a chance.

I picked him up in the P car today as he loves to ride in it and it is a lot lower to the ground than the truck. His blood work indicates he has a serious gastro infection so that is what we are treating him for. He is sleeping peacefully now on his own bed and snoring loudly. Music to our ears. I will keep you all posted. Again I say thanks to all of you for your prayers and caring messages. You all are the best.

Glad he's at home!!!

He took him back this afternoon to get bag of fluids dripped into him. Once again we took the Porsche ambulance. He walked in under his own power, wobbly but on his own and didn't fall once. When we got home we walked around the house and he went right to the ground hog hole that he harrasses every day. He decided then and there to wait for him to come out. Terriers! I made him come around the other side of the house and he fell asleep out in the leaves for about an hour then I made him come in. He made it to the rug in the entrance way and has been sleeping there since about 5 pm. I told the vet about the pedialite and she said maybe tomorrow as every time we put something in his stomach it comes back out one end or the other. I will try freezing Gatoraide tomorrow too, as he likes ice cubes. Makes the hair on my arms stand up when he chews them. More tomorrow. Thanks and good night.

Glad to hear he's doing better.
Worse than kids, they are!
Them Florida city dogs take a little time to get adjusted...
:)

In your last posted photo, Big H looked pretty zonked on his sheepskin.
Relieved...and zonked.
.
Electrolytes in Gatoraide > ice cubes...smart idea.
Yer a good Daddy.

I too am glad to hear he is responding and appears to be getting better.
I miss my pooches something terrible.

targa911S 11-09-2006 06:56 AM

He is still pretty zonked. Made the trip for a bag o fluids today. Today he made it up to the couch and he is sleeping soundly. Today he acts more alert, but stil really sick. He's gotta eat soon, he's pretty weak. I was told only a quarter cup of water or Gatoraide at a time today to see if he can keep anything down.

Targa,
try some rice with lean hamburger .This worked for me when my Rott. got poisoned. Fed him a handful a time, wait ...and do it again.Pullin for you both. Update from SAM..what broken toe? I can leap like Superman.

they also seem to like it when you cook the rice with a bit of chicken or beef broth.

Sounds like he's definitely on the road to recovery.

targa911S 11-09-2006 07:31 AM

yes I think so too. Hopefully we can get some food in him in the next couple of days. Thankfully he is "big boned" so he won't starve to death.

bigchillcar 11-09-2006 07:57 AM

awesome. we're all pulling for him. no love for ya like your pet has..they just keep comin' back and lovin' ya.. :)

Yes on chicken...
I used to do rice and boiled chicken breast (finely chopped) and no spices/herbs/salt/pepper.
Painful when they have no appetite.

I asked my g/f, the Dr. and puppie guru-ette, about Pedialyte...she said she always has a bottle or two on hand.
She said that once opened, it can go bad fairly soon...so she has the small containers.
Also, said they have Pedialyte Freezer Pops.
She said, "Since Big H is an ice cube guy, he might like those." :)
BTW, she sends her best.

Edit: What the hell, you could just make his ice cubes out of reg. Pedialyte.

Not eating yet but he is keeping water down. Looking better today.

The two them hogging the couch...no room for Dad, but Buddy is glad his big brother is feeling a little better. They look like bookends.
