Well another day of thank you's from myself, my wife, and of course, The Big Guy. This has been a long and trying week so far and you all have been a giant help in getting through it. More tomorrow. Tonight has been tricky. He is having big trouble walking as he is so weak. He still refuses food and he has got to be weak from 5 days with no food. Just got his meds in him so he's out like a light again. We aren't out of the woods yet.

Targa, this reminded me of when my dog passed....a comment in the thread about my dog....

From the thread:
Did the vet check for Canine Leptospirosis? It got our Akita a couple years ago, and the symptoms were remarkably similar to the ones you described.

Animal lovers share a strong bond.
Whether I had my two pups out or if I met someone with theirs, it often was instant affinity.
After getting my two pups, it struck me that something major and profound had been missing in my life.
As Seahawk said, "You just simply can't love'em enough."
They'll accept all the love you have, and then some...and return it in spades.

Man, that's one sick boy.
Whatever he got after must have been mighty toxic.
Sleep well and sweet dreams, you big baby boy.

ps Thanks for sharing the photos.

An interesting thread. Ironicly the band I played in when I lived in Florida did a benefit every year for the Humane Society there. All to raise awareness on animals in hot cars. My drummers dog was murdered in spite by an alcoholic ex girl friend of his by locking her in a van in the hot sun while she went up to her apartment and attemped suicide. Well she lived unfortunatly but Molly died. My first Airedale, Harry, that I rescued, died the same week after a bout with cancer. So Pinetop and I went to a local club owner and asked if we could do a benefit in their honor. The first year we only raised $600.00. We did it every memorial day Sunday for 10 years. The last one we did was just before I moved to PA and we raised over $6,000.00. On a side noted Molly's murderer went to jail for felony animal abuse, and died in prison from liver complications.

Pinetop? I know of only one Pinetop (Perkins)....surely not the same?

targa911S 11-10-2006 05:00 AM

No, that would make me Muddy Waters, an honor, but also dead. My drummer took his nickname from the legendary piano man.

KFC911 11-10-2006 05:33 AM

I used to be on the board of our local blues society, and Pinetop Perkins is good friends with another friend of mine. Bob Margolin (one of Muddy's guitar players lives here locally) and still plays festivals with PP and some of MW's old band. Pinetop is approaching 90 (as I recall), and can still play the blues....and an exceptionally nice man to boot!

targa911S 11-10-2006 05:46 AM

I agree. I met him at a club in Tampa years ago. The longest fingers I have ever seen. A gentleman for sure. Mud had the best band ever. Perkins, Smith, Margolin,Portnoy. Top notch. Muddy could have farted Dixie and it would have sounded good

How's Henry now?

targa911S 11-10-2006 05:49 PM

Well...we took a set backwards today. He was so weak from hunger he couldn't stay standing long enough to piss. He fell 2 times just getting to the vets. He really had me worried all day. I towel walked him out into the yard so he could enjoy the sunshine while I blew leaves all afternoon. He slept out in the grass most of the day. On the good side I beer canned a chicken tonight so I thought I would try one more time to get him to eat. Every other time he has turned his nose up at any food. Well I must make the best damn beer can chicken in PA! He ate a handful of chicken from me if I fed him one piece at a time. Mj and I were elated! We ran some errands and when we came home he had not thrown it up so we gave him some chicken noodle soup. He is working on that, slowly, as I type. We are hopeful once again, now that he has some food in him. I will update everyone tomorrow once again. Have a great weekend everyone and thanks for all your concern.

David, Mj & Henry
(Buddy too)

Reading your first few lines, I didn't want to read more - dreaded reading bad news.
But then, "We are hopeful once again...".

May God help this poor sick pup.
Lord knows, you're doing all that you can.

Think I'll go make some Lipton chicken soup.

Hang in there and God bless Big Henry.
My Mother is from #5 Mine (near Grove City) They make'em tough out there.

targa911S 11-11-2006 03:11 AM

JCF, I'm close to Grove City. I'm over by New Wilmington. Up early. We all slept good through the night. I just checked on him and I got a tail wag and a head lift.

Did the vet ever do a complete blood count?

scottmandue 11-11-2006 09:05 AM

Best wishes for you and your pup. Just wanted to give you a little encouragement. I have been following this thread at work and can't take reading more than a page at a time before I start getting misty... I'm such a wuss!

Hang in there!

No targa...this part of the thread....

Have the vet run that test....

targa911S 11-11-2006 02:15 PM

Blood count yes...looks good high white cell count that indicated an infection.
Cool ..I will check with her on monday when we return.
Scott yes I know it's hard for me to even get through without getting misty. The best bunch of people in the world here.

Today's update.....

Eating canned food! He's still really weak, but he actually barked at the front door today when we came home from the store. More like a whisper, but a bark none the less. Buddy seems a bit confused by all the special attention Henry is getting so we took him out with us today, leaving The Big H in charge. He let us know he was doing his job! Pitifully but still another good sign. Hopefully his strength will return now so Old Dad can give his back a rest from carrying his boney brown butt around!

Sounds like maybe you're turning the corner and just keep up what you are doing. It's amazing what we do for our dogs but if you're a dog person you know why we do this. Hang in there.
