F-4's on History channel Dogfight

Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with the history channel even to the point that I have found some of there historical documentary to be ludicrously inaccurate.

However... although I was bummed last night to find I don't get the National Geographic channel (damn you dishnetwork) and hence couldn't watch the Ferrari factory tour.

Fortunately the history channel was doing a veterans day theme and they must have dropped some major coin on CGI equipment because they had recreations of, the battle for Britain, battle of the bulge (no, Kirstie Alley wasn't in it) and best of all dogfight (the show) did a show on F-4's in Vietnam featuring (Now General?) Olds.

Good stuff for all you F-4 fans out there, I'm sure history will be replaying it so check your listings.

One of the best airplanes ever made. Sorry I am working and will miss this but hope to see it on a replay.

What I would give to win the lotto and buy a private F4...

Used to work for McDonnell Douglas and have a few things lying around.

My favourite Phantom patch... somewhat cleaned up for Pelican...

+1 from me on Hanoi jane.

"Dogfight" is a series; last week was also excellent stuff.

Funny thing. I just received an email from a good friend. He is in Hanoi right now on a flight, Vets day. His flight attendent is named Jane...

Anyone else see the parallel?

Damm, now the place is not safe for kids nor virgins!

Also forgot to mention that you are an F-4 driver!

Jim,

I have met Jim Pardo and have one of his signed prints. Absolutely amazing rescue.

A few years ago (like, probably 15) I was at work (at McDonnell Douglas) when some guy in an F-4 decided it would be cool to do some sort of crazy low-level fly-over of our facility. I thought the world was coming to an end. That was the loudest fighter I have ever heard.

It was glorious.

I have the program on VHS tape, I think that I'll keep it for a while. I also have the F-86/MIG-15 one on tape.

We believe that this was what happened to Singpilot, aka fingpilot. I have it on good authority that he was semi-normal before being introduced to the F-4, then he was changed forever.

Course he also rides Honda's so we have been wondering about him for a while!

Have to agree with you about the sound. That said, there is nothing like the sound of an old radial engine, or four of them flying overhead. There will come a time when you cannot hear them anylonger due to fuel or parts issues but for now the sure sound nice.

I wouldn't be so sure. I used to work for a guy that had a P-51 Mustang among other things (like a Harvard, a Corsair, and a Sea Fury). The company I worked for designed and made race car engines for a well known German car company. But it was not unkown for us to make the odd parts for Rolls Royce Merlins!

If it doesn't exist you can get them made, all it needs is $$$!

Joe,

I see ya radial and raise ya a Merlin or four...preferably unsyn'ed...like a Lancaster...

Even better a racing Merlin....or Griffon driving a contra prop......

Aer.

I attribute my partial hearing loss to the F4. I spent two years on the flightline working on the Wild Weasels at George AFB.

Oh and the smell of jet fuel and exhaust. Wonderful!

Hanoi Jane Fonda posing and chuckling with NVA soldiers while sitting on a communist antiaircraft gun, North Vietnam, 1972. She looks lovely with that enemy helmet on too, eh boys?

Jane Fonda....treasonous whore.

Tom Hayden and Jane Fonda being interviewed after their return from North Vietnam. Jane Fonda tells the world press that the American Prisoners of War were being well treated and not tortured.

Joe -

Does your "Push" print look anything like mine? Sorry for the flash dazzle, but couldn't get anything without it.

As for Round Motors, I Love 'Em! Maybe we need a Pelican section at the Reno Air Races - the only place I know of where you can see and hear Bearcats, Sea Furies, Merlins and even a Tiger Cat at full throttle and 50 feet. I'm getting light-headed thinking about it.

Not air racing, but quite an experience:

Used to see lots of F-4 and F-15 activity in Thailand. Thuds sounded incredible! Flew with a pilot at my last job who flew 189 missions as a Thud Wild Weasel(!!!!!!!!) and lived.

MFAFF -
I belong to a group that helps support the Not Forgotten Association. One of our members flew Mosquitos and Lancasters in WWII. He's a real Merlin guy. I'll do pretty much anything to get him to start talking. Next Dining-In is Friday - can't wait.
