Oil over fill normal 4cyl engine: Problem?

I show about a litre (quart) oil over filled on my Mazda 2.2 l engine. What happens to the engine/oil in this case? Is it possible for the oil to surge up the dipstick tube and spill out during higher revs? I guess I should just drain the extra oil out.

This will often lead to leaks at either end of the crank on the main bearing seals. On the front, it will make a mess. On the back, it could get all over the clutch, requiring a clutch replacement. It won't come up out of the dipstick tube; that would be the least of your problems if it did.

Some engines the crank will hit the oil sitting in the bottom, causing damage at times. Best to drain or suck a bit out and get it closer to the right level. How far over the max mark is it showing now?

Joe, the space between the low and high mark is approximtely the same amount by which it is over that high mark; does that make sense?
