Why is it that if you speak out against homosexuality, some people on this board will question your heterosexuality?

Sorry, but it reminds me of a bunch of little kids running around calling each other fags. We are better than that. Well, most of us are.

What does society do to them? Well, besides coddling and appeasing?

There are SO many groups in society that engage in unacceptable behavior. We would, as a society, scoff at any other that used this "victim" approach. We would expect them to buck up and quell their particular flavor of irresistable urge. Hell, I'm sure most of us harbor such urges. We have learned to try to suppress the counterproductive, unhealthy, self-destructive ones.

No, I cannot believe it is society's fault that gays are less able to suppress their self-destructive hedonistic tendencies. Not entirely.

As they say at the Pelican parts message board...

This recent article about Haggard is very interesting. Here are a couple of quotes from it:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061115/ap_on_re_us/haggard_therapy_debate

"Haggard is Exhibit A of how people can't change their sexual orientation," said Wayne Besen, a gay-rights activist and author. "With all that he had to lose — a wife, children, a huge church — he had to be who he was in the end. He couldn't pray away the gay."

NARTH's views are considered fringe by the American Psychiatric Association and the American Psychological Association. Both declared in the 1970s that homosexuality was not a mental disorder and does not warrant a "cure."

From the National Geographic Article:
"Yet scientists say we should be wary of referring to animals when considering what's acceptable in human society. For instance, infanticide, as practiced by lions and many other animals, isn't something people, gay or straight, generally approve of in humans."

Certain chimps practice canabilism -- should we be considering that too? Lots of animals practice polygamy too, does that mean that we should? I doubt it.

Ultimately we have to take a lot of this stuff for a grain of salt. Animals are animals, and humans (while biologically grouped in the same phylum with other animals) are of a completely different sort due to their levels of reasoning and self awareness.

I was joking - feeble though it was - and I am sure Supe knows this. I agree with much of what he says on the issue.

Burnin' oil 11-15-2006 01:08 PM

P.S. Please note, Sammy, that I did not call you a fag, although it crossed my mind after reading your post. In fact, it was the first thing that crossed my mind, but I am much too high-brow for silly name calling.

Nope, not gonna do it.

Most animals will eat their own feces if you catch them in the right mood.

Fortunately, we are not animals.

sammyg2 11-15-2006 01:40 PM

Burnin' oil, yes in fact you did. Grow up.

Burnin' oil 11-15-2006 02:19 PM

I think I can, I think I can

nostatic 11-15-2006 03:43 PM

no you can't. and we love you just the way you are.

The church is a joke. A bad, dangerous, sick joke. If everyone is "disordered", then they should come out and say that. But they don't. Instead they bury heterosexual issues and instead focus on a conveninet flash point where they know that fear and loathing can breed.

Porn exists mostly because of the churches. The ridiculous puritanical views on sex drive the growth of than industry. You think only perverts are buying that stuff? How many "Christians" here go to titty bars? Or post pictures of scantily clad women here on the board?

The double standard reeks worse than a Beijing public bathroom...

Nostril Cheese 11-15-2006 03:49 PM

I'm a Catholic who frequently visits strip clubs and watches porn. I have no problem admitting that. I figure that God should have no problem with me admiring woman

I was with you, until that one.

porn would have existed, and would continue to exist, if the church was never invented or ceased to exist tomorrow.

There are a number of examples of porn dating back to the ancient Egyptian and Mesopetamian cultures, long before the Judaic-Christian religions (let alone Islam) had made any measurable impact on the world.

nostatic 11-15-2006 04:20 PM

yes, it would exist. But it wouldn't be as huge an industry without the churches saying sex was bad...

jluetjen 11-15-2006 04:31 PM

Actually, it most likely had more to do with the distribution medium. It's hell distributing porn when you have to chisel it into rock. The Mesopetamians apparently did have a fairly thriving market for erotic poetry without the pictures. I guess it was easier to press reeds into mud patties then to send pictures cut into rock.

dd74 11-15-2006 04:40 PM

Getting back to Supe's original post: so what's the upshot here? In so many words, the Catholic Church deems there is no such thing as a good Catholic gay? Sort of like Hitler deciding there was no such thing as a good German Jew?

Or am I wrong?

Dottore 11-15-2006 04:57 PM

So my question is: Why is it that a lot of you guys who get riled up about male homsexuality seem to find lesbianism, girls kissing, carpet-munching, sipping from the furry cup (or whatever you want to call female homosexuality) funny, cute, erotic and otherwise perfectly in order?

One theory might be that you are all closet homosexuals, and it's only the male thing that makes you uneasy.

Don't know why it is - it just is.

Thats easy,

The bible clearly states it is wrong for men to lay with men, it never once mentions that its wrong for woman to do it.

Additionally, Wise King Solomon had how many wifes? 700!!

You want to tell me this man in gods good favor slept with them 1 at a time. LOL!! He probably had 5-10 at a time.

I rest my case.
