Best video games

What have been your favorite games?

Arcade Types- Foresaken, Quake2, and Unreal Torurnament

Driving Simulators- Grand Prix Legends- very dated, but still tons of free tracks of just about everything. In second place would be NFS Porche Unlimited(not really a true sim though).
The new GTR2 looks exceptional.

Flight Simulators- IL2 series definitly. In second was IAF but it was pretty buggy.

FPS- Operation Flashpoint Resistance definitly. The first to combind massive non-linear environments, 1-shot kills, interactive vehicles, and tons of free mods. The Rainbow6 and Ghost Recons were fun but quickly got boring.
The next version of OFP is called Armed Assault is is in the process of being released. A screenshot :

I'm an D&D hack-n-slash dungeon-crawl kind of guy, myself. I actually got my wife into it.

I have to ask what that picture is, though. I've never seen anything so realistic. It for a PC?

thrown_hammer 11-16-2006 09:56 AM

I really like the SOCOM games on the Sony PSP. It has a real time headset feature and I really like to ba able to walk out into the kitchen to get a Mt. Dew without having to set my M16-A2 down.:D

I'll second Grand Prix Legends. Like you say it might be old, but it will keep you busy for ever. It took me months to get even remotely close to a 10 minute lap of the 'Ring.

That's what I'm talkin about!! Nice choice in games Shawn. ;)

I like GT4 and Socom, the most recent Socom: Combined Assault is insane.....definitely a must have for Playstation 2.

Jim727 11-16-2006 10:20 AM

RTS: Homeworld (1 and 2) hands down.

Flt Sim: Jane's WWII - excellent modeling, as you would expect from Jane's. Also like the Boeing 314 Sim.

Nostril Cheese 11-16-2006 10:21 AM

I just recently got Flight Simulator X

Thats really impressive to me.

wcc 11-16-2006 10:33 AM

Do you have SOCOM fireteam Bravo on the PSP? I am saving up for the sequel right now. I play almost every night from 8-11PM. I need help…Hi, my name is Shawn, and I am a virtual Navy Seal…

id10t 11-16-2006 10:43 AM

Original Quake, Quake2, Quake3, ET, SoF, Mechwarrior, Wolfenstien (the new one)

All running natively in Linux.

white87911 11-16-2006 10:59 AM

The best FPS I have played is Halflife 2. Better than Doom 3 and Quake 4. I would also say the Far Cry comes in a close second.

all the youngins are scratching there heads

I bought an XBOX 360 about 2 months ago. So far I have:

Madden 07 (pretty good football game, haven't tried online yet)
Tiger Woods 07 (I actually play this one the most, of course I am a golf nut too though)
Gears of War (I just bought this one last week. The graphics on a HDTV are friggin amazing...I like the multiplayer although I must say I am a little disappointed.)

PC Favorite: Probably the original Call of Duty or the original Command and Conquer. Geez, I spent a lot of sleepless night playing C&C...

I am thinking about buying Call of Duty 3 for the XBOX 360, but I have seen some stuff on the net that says it is a pretty buggy game at this point. Prolly hold off and play Gears of War for a while.

I'm waiting for a really good driving game to come out for 360, haven't seen too much yet. There is also a college basketball game coming out in a couple weeks that looks promising.

Marathon. Old Mac FPS game that I still play to this day. Basically the only game I play. Great game that still has a huge following.

I've got to say...I had fun last year playing the new Zelda and Metroid games.

Aerkuld 11-16-2006 02:06 PM

It's funny, but despite all these flashy new games with realistic graphics and sound effects, the old Atari games are still cool.

I have a son who's 6 and a stepson who's 12 and when they come over to stay at my house they love playing Atari, even though they have PS and PS2 at home. Their favorites are Combat (with the tanks) and Frogger.

Do you think that the newer games are complicated to learn but easy to play, whereas the old games are the opposite?

Sometimes simple is best. That's what I keep telling myself anyway.

legion 11-16-2006 02:09 PM

I could never do sports games beyond Techmo Bowl. They were far too complicated for me after that...

adomakin 11-17-2006 04:40 PM

Coincidence or something rigged here - but the little ad below is for gametap - an online arcade style gaming place.

Hmmm - maybe they ARE watching us....

i've been playing racing games on my ps2 for years......gt3, gt4, F1 , racing trucks, nfs, you name it.....out of all of them gt4 was the top game, but then i stumbled across Toca3.
Toca3 has one of the best racing "engines" i've ever played, the physics are realistic, damage is realistic (softer shocks damage easier....if you break a shock the tire also wears pre-maturley)....
a lack of different cars is made up by the vastness of different types/eras of racing.
there are also F1 cars from the early days to senna to modern, also the computer difficulty is adjustable up to 110% and comp controlled cars are inteligent and won't ram you for no reason like other games........
the best one out there.....if you like good racing action it's a must have :)
also online compatible.

Ditto! That game took a few weeks out of my lifetime and some real late nights. Loved every minute of it!

Intellivision -

B-52 Bomber (voice module needed)
Basketball (2nd version)
Football (2nd version)
Bomb Squad (voice module)
Sub Hunt
Reversi, Backgammon & Chess (if you had 24 hours to play a game against the box on the higher levels - it might take 3 hours to make a move)

Purrybonker 11-18-2006 08:42 AM

Best game platform game of all time

Ocarina of Time - N64

Number 2 position:

Chronotrigger - Super NES

Also ran:

Super Mario - N64

Best PC Game (with mod) of all time:

BF with Forgotten Hope modification.

...just my humble opinion, but all those FPS (save FH), race or fighting games are for pubescent kids

vangndy 11-18-2006 08:57 AM

Fallout
X-COM
Space Bucks
Port Royale 2
Heroes of Might and Magic III

adomakin 11-18-2006 12:03 PM

how did i forget the tomb raider series-that game ruined my (and a select few freinds) social life for at least two months per release!)

stevej37 11-18-2006 04:23 PM

Intellivision - Baseball

on-ramp 11-18-2006 04:49 PM

Far Cry.

skilletshot 11-18-2006 10:07 PM

Intellivison. Let's see. I am a few days shy of 43, but roughly 22 years ago, me and my twin brother came to blows in the front yard over Intellivision football. Trip to the ER ensued. Good times.
Lately. Does anyone fly AcesHigh Combat Flight Simulator? This is addictictive. If you like flight sims, this is the bomb. HiTechCreations.com. I am not affilliated, just an enthusiast. WWII combat flight sim with 100 to 300 people flying in real time, shooting. Very Cool.
Also, as a FPS, Counter Strike. Out

Ronbo 11-19-2006 09:49 AM

On the PS2: GT4
On the Mac: C&C Zero Hour
