Thanks. My software company, MacPractice, says I can connect without additional software, but if I can't I'll look into Remote Desktop

MacPractice. So you have a dedicated office management app that has remote access capabilities baked into it?

very cool.

Mac guys - on topic but advanced - if this were a true *nix environment, Moses should just be able to ssh in and either export a display back or query the login server (xdmcp query or similar). Is there anything like that on a Mac (native?) where you could just query the login daemon running after ssh'ing in and maybe forwarding the appropriate port?

Actually he can.

OSX is unix with a really great shell for the average user and all the geek tools are right there as well.

Quick synopsis here. http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/unix/

Terminal app running simple TOP command,

Also comes with Apache, perl, sql, X11 all installed ready to run.

GIMP running under X11, (that's my 55' 190SL, 7th one off the production line, 1st car sold to the public, we've been told it's the display car from the 56' NY Auto Show)

I run all of them by default on my production laptop. When I develop sites for people I can build locally complete with databases and when I'm done debugging I upload to my Linux servers, change some path variables and I'm done.

I'm also running Urchin compiled for Red Hat with no mods on my end, straight install.

You should hit an Apple store and check it out, I think you'd really dig it.

Yeah, I know OS X is bsd bassed, and has X11 in it. Just not sure about the login daemon part, and if you could query it from another machine over a network or not.
