Lunatics buying toys for their children.

My wife and I could pretty much buy our child any toy she desired (unless she starts asking for Gallardos). But we don't. She gets all the books and puzzles she wants, but toys are a treat.

So what is up with these f*cking lunatics lining up to buy their children the latest 'hot' toy. WTF? Standing in line all night to get your child a toy? People are out of their flipping minds in this country. And I suspect they are a raising little monsters in the process.

And the band played on.......

And since they are spending more than they are making, this situation will bite us all in the a$$ at some point in time.

It's a reflection of the values we teach. For some, it's about enjoying what you're fortunate enough to receive. For most (unfortunately) it's about wanton consumption at any cost. Most stuff kids want simply to show off, not because they really want it.

How many kids would really want a PS3 if they couldn't brag to their friends that they got one? Probably a few, but nowhere near enough to justify the ridiculous demand we see out there.

Not to sound like a scrooge here, but I really hate what the holiday season has become. I tell everyone every year that I don't want anything from them (and I honestly don't). Why should people work themselves into a tizzy to get me (or anyone else) some POS that'll end up in an attic or at a yard sale or in the trash within 6 months? That's what most holiday gifts are. The stuff I can really use, I get for myself because it's typically more expensive than I feel is appropriate to ask for (if it's more than about 25 bucks, I don't want someone else getting it for me).

Amen, Jeff!
That is exactly how I feel. I dislike the holiday season for that reason.

My kids are too young to ask for stuff but my wife and I believe these people are outrageous as well. Sorry, but I wouldn't stand outside in a line waiting for a toy no matter how hot it is. I do not go out on Black Friday, either. Too many idiots.

come think of it,
i suspect that those who stand in line , many of em are of the kind that is overly concerned about their kids minds beeing corrupted by things like a nipslip on tv...

thinking that a stray tittie will ruin their minds, yet they themselfs are doing a top job of that very thing by bloody spoiling the little critters to the point where they are sky high on the compulsive-aquiring-high, fed by their parents...

i know a few spoiled kids around here, but it's definately not of the sorts i see on tv in US tv shows...definately no queues for certain hot toys, no over the top sweet 16 parties either...and we see ****loads of titties on tv here... advertisement for shower cream... bound to be a tittie in it... even during the day... never did me any wrong...

One word, "Ebay". I would say 75 to 95% are simply reselling the stuff, (PS3 and Wii). I'm actually in the market for a Wii for my 10 year old son that loves Game-cube. And no, I'm not going to wait in line or pay overinflated ebay cost. The funny thing is that it is actually backfiring on many because the supply is way too high. I saw a Wii unit sell on ebay Sunday morning for $1000. They are now selling for less then $400 and dropping steadily, especially since it has been less then a week since everyone got theirs and they are now trying to resell it. I bet within 2 weeks I will get one for cost or even less.

What a bunch of anti-Americans!

If we don't teach our children rabid consumerism now how do you expect them to grow up and buy automobiles and houses they can't afford? Our very lifestyle depends on this!

Now... who wants to start bidding on this fine tickle me Elmo?

I have believed for a long time that some parents think that the amount spent on their kids shows how much they care about the kids.

Didn't the Beatles have a song about that.... Money can't buy me love...
Looking at some kids and adults today the answer would be no, it can't.

No offense intended, but I find this anti-toy sentiment funny on a board where nearly everyone has a multi-kilobuck "toy" to play with on the weekends.
