LA car rental.

I'm thinking of flying into the LA area around New Years, and would love to do the rumoured Porsche Fun run on the 1st. Trouble is, my 911 will be in CT.

So....I am considering renting something interesting, like a Lotus Elise. Does anyone have any suggestions or experiences renting such a car, and from whom?

Thanks in advance...

I used or should say have used "Midway" at LAX. You have to make a reservation for more than two days, and a Porsche is around $2500 for five days with a mileage cap if I recall.

I just read somewhere that Enterprise has some Lotus Elises and LA is one of the locations where they will be renting them.

Jake,
My son works for Enterprise and they rent the Lotus Elise. Daily rental rates are $250. They don't have a weekly rate for it and it is not available at their LAX office.

Does anyone know the name of the independent rental place at the 55 and PCH in Newport? I know it is out of the way but they have at least 1 Porsche, an Elise, and a Ferrari for rent.

Just spoke to my son again. If you're serious, he can get one to John Wayne airport for you (Orange County) - they don't ordinarily carry them at the airport branches but he'll get one there. I tried asking him for a rate break for you, but they arent allowed to discount on the Lotus (and a few others) they know what people are going to do with them! Drop me a PM if you want any more info/help. Best, Dan

They rent all sorts of exotic and high-end cars, and are located right in the heart of Beverly Hills.

Do you have any idea if they are doing the GPS monitoring thing on them. Have had a couple friends charged because the car had a GPS monitor in it and they were speeding. Of course they didn't see the bit hidden in the contract that said they would be charged for excessive speed.

I don't think 80 on LA freeways is unreasonable to the point of being charged for it. I regularly see traffic where if you are going 75 you are being passed by most of the traffic...

Wow guys, great links. Dan that is fantastic, thanks for the legwork. I am trying to nail down my girlfriends work schedule and figure out the travel aspect and she hates plans, so it's rough going, LOL.

Tell me they're not serious about the GPS speeding thing...uggg...or show me the power connector, LOL>

If both of mine are running I could lend you one and drive the other. . .

Wow...what a great offer. Thats what makes this board so great. Part of me wants to jump on that, LOL. But the smart part of me is reluctant to drive another guys car over unfamiliar roads just in case the unthinkable happens.

I'll try to work out the Elise concept..(.if folks don't mind having a non Porsche in the crowd, that is,) and keep trying to get my girlfriends plans sorted for now.

But thanks..thats a very generous offer!
