No Pelican on home Computer

Nothing new added, it just decided 'Cannot find Server'
Google it, find site, hit go+ no server
I can get to all other favorites, does the same on the Lap top.
Reset to previous date when it was working ,now = Cannot find Server.
?

My guess is that your ISP's DNS has lost the record. I bet it just starts working again at some point.

Hmm,

Are you saying that you could hit other sites but no longer pelican and after you rolled back you can not hit any sites?

Sounds like your ISP may have changed DNS settings on you or a domain controller somewhere along the line is down.

Try a trace route and see where it dies. If it stops 1 or 2 hops in then the problem is local, if you get 5 or 6 hops before it dies problem is somewhere along the route and should resolve itself iin time.

You sure the wife did not install some sort of "parental controls" to keep you off the board?

Here's a way to test it.

Try hitting pelicans IP address.

66.236.61.177

If that works it's most likely a DNS issue.

Here's a link to an online trace route.

http://www.network-tools.com

Just select trace route and enter pelicanparts.com

Think of the route as a series of intersections from your house to wayne.

If you look at the result of the trace route the 1st 3 entries are getting out of your ISP, (leave your garage, pull out of the driveway and onto the streeet). If it dies there the problem is with them or that the DNS entries on your computer got blown away. I tend to doubt the later.

Everything in between are the lefts and rights that you make to get to waynes. If it dies somewhere along that line the problem has nothing to do with you or your ISP and the only thing you can do is wait for it to resolve itself. Think of it as a bridge that got washed out or a raod closed due to construction.

The internet is "self healing" meaning it should route you around trouble once it learns about it. Traffic on the net will take a different route all the time, it always tries to use the quickest shortest route, at least that's the theory.

Try using the ip address, just put it into the browser as is, 66.236.61.165 that should get you there if a domain controller is down along the way.

Scott

I just pinged both pelicanparts.com and his IP address. Both time out.

Problem is somewhere on his end.

You may just have to wait.

If wayne is handling his own DNS it could explain it.

You want 2 machines on different networks to provide DNS services redundency.

typically when people host their own rather than letting the ISP do it they use either one machine or machines on the same network so if there is a problem there is no fallback to reroute traffic.

Cahoots? What a great word. Tabs is far from innocent. You misunderestimate his powers...

Still doing PT on the knee and hip. It's at maybe 90% but the last 10% may never quite come back I fear. Have to build the muscles back up to try and make up for the stretched tendons/ligaments. Fun!
