POLL: How long before your first 911 speeding ticket?
Dang, Had the car a month and a half and made the mistake of getting distracted by a cell phone call - honestly, I normally never speed........
Anyhoo, the nice TN state trooper, starts asking me a lot of questions about the car telling me how much he really liked it. Next he asks me how long I have had it, told him not long and still getting used to what 55 feels like (I was clocked at 74:eek: ) and I was pretty tired from a couple of all night emergencies this week. He says very nicely, "OK, let me just run your DL and I won't keep you but a minute..." I am thinking, nice guy, I need to remember to wish him a Merry Christmas"... 5 minutes later, he comes back and says, very apologetically, "I am really sorry, I forgot they fixed my video and audio last night, I have to give you a ticket." DOH~! Dang...:( |
that suks. I havnt yet got a ticket iv had my car since september. I cant get a ticket. The insurance is under my dads name and its only 300 buks a year. If i get a ticket he will likely drop me and im only 21 so probrobly no one will insure me and if they do it will be outrageous. Anyway my advice is to plead not guilty every time and it will likely get knocked down to a minor traffic offence
|
.
My first speeding ticket in 15 years...
|
Three years before the first ticket hopefully I won't get anymore my insurance didn't have much of a sense of humor about it either they only had one word for me after I got that ticket "DON'T"
|
Welcome to Tennessee :)
|
I've had my 911 since July. Got stopped the first week on the way to work. Cop pulled me over b/c he could not see my temp tag on the rear deck. Was going through a dicey part of town...he noticed the Porsche and no tag ....said if it was stolen I would have bolted.....he saw the tag in the rear deck when as he walked up and apologized for pulling me over. My heart was racing nonetheless. Complimented me on the car and asked how I liked it. It's all good!:)

|
Bought a Valentine1 right after getting the car. It has helped me out tons of times.......Knock on wood........:D
|
Still ticket free in the 911. I have been pulled over once and a fellow Pelican unfortunately got the ticket and I got the reprieve. Approaching 4 years of ownership in January.
|
at least he apologized - sounds like he was being recorded and would have been disciplined if he didn't
I have never gotten a ticket in a 911 (!) - that's owning two different ones over at least a 10 year period. Both are blue and I've been stopped 4 or 5 times. I have been ticketed in the Boxster I used to lease, and in a blue Pontiac GTO, a red turbo RX-7 and many many other cars... |
Two weeks into ownership of my first 911 - just couldn't get enough of that wonderful noise! But haven't had one since... taking the car to the track has slowed me down on the road.
|
One (1) Hour
The CHP came to the passenger side and asked me for my license, registration, and proof of insurance. I told him I have a license, but no registration or proof of insurance. He then dipped his head down to look at me through the window. That's when I told him I bought the car less than an hour ago
This was his reply, "If I just bought this car, I would be going a lot faster than 80!" After running my license, he told me not to speed and have a nice day. |
Never in 20 years!
But I do seem to remember giving the slip in tight suburban streets when I was younger and stupid around 15 years ago. I'm knocking on wood...... |
Had some close calls, but I am one that really pays attention to what is around me. I can tell a troopers head and running light pattern on a foggy night before he gets within a 100 yds of me. I always look back over my shoulder when entering the freeway (saved me tonight cause a Washington State trooper was right there in the fast lane as I entered the freeway. I was already doing 10 over when he saw me and he did accelerate. I glanced at the mirror and could see the lights and pushbars. Eased up on the gas. He sat there long enough to run the plate and then passed me). Also, Washington gives you one free ticket every 7 years. Show up in court, judge puts you on year probation period. After that year it is dismissed.
|
nothing yet got my carrera november of 04, and the turbo isnt running yet. All of my really big ones were driving my pickup
|
Never in 23 years. I must be driving like a puuussy (at least according to my brother).
|
Pulled over once in two years of ownership. I drive way too fast all the time.
Its not so much how often you speed but how smart you are when doing it. A good set of defensive countermeasures help. I use an Escort and my Mark-1 eyeballs to keep me out of trouble. The escort is for those I can't see and I eyeball every car on the road. Not just look at it, but make a determination as to threat level. The one that pulled me over was an undercover ford explorer. He clocked me (on his speedo) at 90+ (in a 70 zone). Fortunately, his words of wisdom were "Try to keep it under 80." (no ticket) Yes, I am blessed. |
I went 6 years without even being pulled over. Then last year I was nailed for 91 in a 45.(I was guilty, officer didn't show to court so it was dismissed.)
This past summer, I recieved two in 3 months. One for 91 in a 55 and one for 91 in a 70. Both were reduced to 15 over by the officer at the writing time. All three times were by a Michigan State Trooper. The last two times were my fault but there circumstances that lead me to speed. I wasn't rippin' up the highway like a maniac.(Strange that all three times I was "clocked" at 91MPH.) Both troopers commented after giving me the ticket about the car and that they had to write me up based on the infraction. They were both very nice and professional and even understanding of the events. I will not buy a radar detector, though. I'm afraid I would be more inclined to speed. I drive sometimes 1000 miles a week for work and have never been pulled over. |
Havn't been pulled over in 6-7 years. My last was 90 in a 55. Since then I wised up, I got a V1. I also don't play around in town or populated places. The rural Va roads are fairly safe, I get my fix there.
|
Yeah I'm surprised I haven't been given some big tickets. i race around all the time. Once I passed a trooper sitting in the middle of the highway doing around a 100 accelerating to get thru the light before it turned red. he was facing away and I went by the cop car so fast I'm sure it swayed back and forth. he didn't follow. Also my exhaust (MK) is so noisey, I'm sure I actually scared him as I went by!!!!
|
while we're at it...
Along with this topic, I am amazed at how just about everyone (mostly the "utes" yer honour) with a car they think is fast has to try to prove it while driving next to me. Most of the time I remain fairly level headed about it. DO not want to set the wrong example for the kids and all. I am especially amazed at the number of guys with Stangs that want to make a run. Geesh!
|
I got pulled over the second day I had the car. Just got a warning though. Lucky me, whew!
|
Last ticket was 21 years ago, cop lost the original so I was off the hook!
A radar detector is a huge help. The California Highway Patrol has a new speed gun that looks like an 8mm camera, is hand held and NOBODIES radar detector will catch it. I ran 50 feet away from that unit and my latest, hottest, detector didn't even blink! This new CHP unit looks as if it can take your picture with the speed and then they can mail you the ticket! Be careful out there! Drums |
because of my V-1... ;-) about 3 years. but now that I have a red 911 I think I'll need to be even more careful.

I think it was about a year or year and a half before I got my first 911 ticket, and I think I got one other besides that. |
Knock on wood, I've only had one ticket in a Porsche and that one was in 1980. Since then I've looged at least 100,000 Porsche miles ticket free.
There's a time and a place for everything. Knowing that and paying attention to it will help keep the ticket-monster away. |
Guys, I must be getting old or I am just lucky. I've had my car for 4 years and have not gotten a ticket yet. I do drive it in a spirited fashion, but must just pick my spots well.
Age has a way of doimg that to us. |
No speeding tix in 3+ years so far. I tend to drive the 911 rather conservatively. I know I'm a ticket magnet.
|
No tickets here, and if you scofflaws wouldn't be engaging in your wild behavior, neither would you. http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/oink.gif http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...s/dazzler1.gif http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/128.gif http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/pub.gif

Got pulled over and harrassed for absolutely no reason in my 928 yesterday. No tickets, no explanation as to why i was pulled over, not even a have a nice day.
Cops are scumbags. |
Two years: 96mph in a 65mph Interstate. My wife tried to talk the trooper out of giving me a ticket :) didn't work :(
Only one so far i but only had the car 2 1/2 years. I should get a V1 but I have slowed down a lot recently with our first child due in March! Time to stick on the "Baby on Board" sticker to the Targa... |
I've had my 911 for 4 and 1/2 years and have not been pulled over (yet). Of course, I didn't get to drive the car this past summer due to mechanical difficulties...

We really need to keep our stuff on the track guys.
It only takes an impulsive 7 or 8 secs. and one gear change from the lights and you're doing 70. There'd be no mercy if caught in a 40 zone here. I refuse to race the ricies at stop lights pulling 1st gear only. Whats the point? I've learnt that it means nothing. What I have learnt though is that at the track, my 20 y/o little "out of the box" baby will run flat out all day (in sessions of no more than 8 laps at a a time) while the hissing Jap fours that have been fiddled with may pull away down the straight, but many don't last the day. I usually end up passing them on a truck or trailer on the way home after they've been bleeding green or brown stuff all over the place by lunch time. The V8 guys will run all day too but they usually run out of rubber before the afternoon. Keep it safe guys.. |
I bought the 911 in Sept. '05 and got my first ticket in June '06.
I was heading back to my house from a Dragon run and got popped by Barney Fife. He was sitting on an overpass at the bottom of a very long 6% grade hill. I was driving with everyone on the road and we were all hitting 90 MPH on the downhill. He had instand on Ka band radar, my V1 went nuts and shut off, I knew I was had. I pondered for a split second staying in it. The roads were curvy and I could easily keep going 100 MPH and shake this guy but I slowed and moved over and waited, and waited and finally he caught up and pulled me over. We drove about 1/2 a mile and pulled over on the side of the exit ramp where it was safer. He thanks me for slowing down, he was afraid I was going to run and he was sure he would not be able to catch me. (Dammit!!) then he thanked me for pulling over on the exit ramp and making it safer. Then he wrote me a ticket for 92 in a 60 requiring me to appear in court. I could not make the court date and was able to plea down the charge to a 74 in a 60 with the county prosecutor on the phone. Be careful with those V-1's if its intstant on or Laser your screwed. Never lear always follow. Thats my new rule. |
Yes, I got a ticket on Thanksgiving day in Texas....in my old toyota 4-Runner. Apparently instant-on radar...there was no warning. I though I was in pretty good shape since my cruise control was set at 74 and the limit was 70. Forgot about the "after dark" law in TX. It had just turned dark and apparently the speed limit drops to 65 on all freeways after dark. Got a ticket for 75 in a 65 zone. Unfortunately it is too far to go back to contest it.

for all the mischief i've been doing running WOT test runs with the LM1... i must say i never got a ticket with the 911 while i owned it..
the 944 on the other hand, got me a ticket within 3 days for some stupid 4 miles over the limit with the distance gate measurement this is Holland, with a fascist policy to traffic control : reduce max speed on highways to a measely 80km/h on 3 lane highways that are jammed up during the day, and empty at night... they have a gate system , gate A , gate B your average speed is calculated by the difference in time, the distance is known... the net result is that everybody is so concentrating on the speedometer, that accidents happen... i kid you not if you loose concentration for 20 secons, you are screwed with a ticket... then again , i can't complain, these "adminstrative" busts to me are nothing compared to what i "could" be busted for my 924 als got me 1 speeding ticket while i owned it... 15kmh over the limit, while i had the 911's engine in the trunk... i should have asked for the picture of that one...the 924's backend was verty low, to the point where the suspension nearly collapsed... a shortblock 911 motor fit's the trunk, but it doesn't mean the 924 was designed for it .. :D |
