Twit Filter

Does this site have settings that allow us to filter the posts of a specific user?

The "ignore" button. I haven't used it, though. I think everyone's opinion has value.

rcecale 12-03-2006 04:41 PM

Click on the "Profile" button inside the particular user's post.

On the Profile page that appears, look for the link to "Ignore posts from theis user" in the blue bar, towards the bottom of the page.

Me neither. I'm too paranoid to use it. As soon as I do, I know someone is gonna start talking trash about me. :D

How would anyone know? Does the person someone places on their ignore list receive a msg. that they have been placed on the list by a specific user?

Can anyone believe the nerve of you?

You make it sound like you know what you are talking about but you just dont. You're gonna confuse people... :D :D :D

I find it strange that a guy http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/pyth.gif who's been on Pelican for less than 200 posts is already seeking shelter of the blocking button.

Kinda' whimpy. http://images19.fotki.com/v37/photos.../smokin-vi.gif

Yes it does, thank goodness. it's my favorite button ;)

Oh man, I think that's the super-secret moderator filter; with that engaged they can't see your posts.

We don't want that to get out, think of the children.

dhoward 12-03-2006 06:31 PM

I hate when that happens...

I really don't know. Heck, I don't even know if I've been added to anyone's ignore list. Although there are several on this forum who have added others, and "bragged" about it. :D

Chris, geeze, man! Do you think you could wait until AFTER I add you to my list before you start in about me? :D:D:D

On most forums, when you have someone on your ignore list all you see from them is "This user is on your ignore list, click here to view their post" when they post. Other than that, no one knows whose on your list, they dont get any notification or anything.

Jeff Higgins 12-03-2006 07:21 PM

Ignore lists are for pussies, pure and simple. If you are that sensitive, or that worried about wasting your time, you are in the wrong place. The asylum is not nearly as fun if you can't see all the inmates.

Asylum eh.

Really just wondered about filters. I might never use them. I was going through the post I added above and one guy was taking up quite a bit of real estate. He also transformed the thread from something useful into spat.

LeRoux Strydom 12-03-2006 07:49 PM

You mean this guy?

He's been on my ignore list for quite a while now, for exactly the reason you mention above.

I like the "asylum", but sometimes, some of the inmates are quite irritating and not worth my time to read their so-called "opinion".

How come most of the guys using the ignore button look like this?

Slopat, did you have to post your high school prom photo? Really? We know you need/want attention but this is a bit much...

sammyg2 12-04-2006 07:50 AM

Yeah whatever. I have 44 names on my ignore list.
Often when someone crosses the line and over-steps the rules I just round file them. It should not be taken personally, but there are some people I want to listen to and others I don't want to listen to.

Many are old trolls who only showed up long enough to get banned and aren't even around anymore. Others are people who's opinions I just don't want to read.

Ironically Tabs was one of the first on the list but he is now one of my favorite posters. I really enjoy reading his stuff. Did he change or did I change? Doesn't matter.

I enjoy this board more if I can selectively look at their posts if i want to, but don't have to scan through what I normally concider drivel if I don't want to.

If someone does not like my posts, by all means put me on your ignore list. It won't hurt my feelings, I encourage it.
I would rather have some people ignoring my posts than replying to them with weak replies, insults, and other attempts to troll.

Plus it is funny to open a christian bashing or similar thread and see the same ignored names over and over. I think my record is 9 ignored posts in a row.
I know what they think. I know what they are going to say. I know I will not agree with it. I know their posts are going to be insulting. I know they are going to say something in an attempt to twist reality or change the subject or turn it into a personal attack when their arguments are completely shot down with facts.
Why bother? Life's too short.

What did Sammy post? Can someone tell me?

sammyg2 12-04-2006 08:41 AM

.... sound of crickets chirping ............. ;)

Joeaksa 12-04-2006 08:49 AM

Crickets are better than someone saying "I can make you squeel like a pig"...

Aerkuld 12-04-2006 08:58 AM

Sammy,
All I was saying is that we hadn't had a christian bashing thread for a while and I'm kind of missing reading the responses.
I followed that by a rather poor pun.
Nothing deep or meaningful, just careless banter really...

Everyone has an opinion. I will usually read them all. But lets not get carried away. They do not all have value.

K. Roman 12-04-2006 03:27 PM

I can't believe people get angry enough to censor another ones comments.

It's like having mom set the cable tv so her baby won't see anything violent, or sexual.

Nothing to do with being angry or censorship. After a while, it becomes obvious that some posters offer little of value in their posts other than being irritating, opinionated and repetitive. Much like small children who should be sent out to play and be seen not heard.

dhoward 12-04-2006 06:02 PM
