what happens when you try? Does it continue to open them in IE, or does it do nothing, or does it give you some sort of error?
My guess is that it opens them in IE, but you want them to open in Firefox. In Firefox try "tools -- options -- general (tab)" and then the "default browser" setting in the middle of the box. There may be a setting in the options for OE that allows you to specify the browser to use as well, but I don't have OE on this box to figure out exactly where in the options. I suspect that setting the "default browser" in XP to Firefox will do the trick. Just make sure that MSIE doesn't check and set itself back to default.

Once I open an eamil in one browser or on one computer, that's the only place can can view the mail. Not any other way. I have tried to forward these sometimes to another addy, but what a PITA. I just need to fix this.
Edit: sorry, I'm confusing things. It's only OE that I'm concerned with, right? FF shouldn't have anything to do with it. Still can't find any settings that will allow me to see the attachments. It wasn't always like this, BTW. the other computer (the new one) just says OE has prevented access to this attachment. Last edited by milt; 12-06-2006 at 02:02 PM.. |

My suggestion would be to jettison outhouse express and use Pegasus for email. http://www.pmail.com Your problem could be coming from all kinds of places, but oe is inherently dangerous.

Tools -> Options -> Security tab. Make sure the check box for "Do not allow attachments..." is not checked.

Have used Pegasus for years now and its one of the best. Its free, not targeted by hackers and virus's and it allows you to "view" your emails on the internet and delete the spam and virus emails there before they ever get to your computer, so its worlds safer than outlook will ever be. Joe

Thanks. I'll switch over if it's user friendly, which my Verizon primary account is NOT. Meanwhile, I thought I did those things, but I'll have another run thru.

Another option (especially if you like FireFox) is Thunderbird (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/).
It will pick up your OE settings and import your address book and folders automatically. Great at catching spam.

Yep, sounds like a couple of issues. With POP3 accounts you normally don't get to view email from multiple locations because when you check your mail it downloads the mail from the server to that machine, (and into the file that the program uses to read mail). You'll always have to have one program someplace that actually downloads your emails even if you leave a copy when you use another email program or computer. If you "leave a copy on the server" in every email program and computer then eventually your inbox will fill up and you won't be able to receive more.
For the second problem, yes, Outlook and OE will block attachments that they think are potentially harmful, but someone has already told you how to alter that behavior. Good luck. Let us know if you have any other issues.
