Smelly Shoes

Hey, i cant be the only one.

I buy 1 pair of shoes a year ( rock ports), however, with daily use, they can get a little ripe. I wear them almost every day, and they still have lots of cushion and Sole has little wear (office wear).

What works for removing that foot smell.

What can i do to prevent that foot smell for the next pair.

Might be the socks you are wearing.

I had a buddy that used baby powder. A sprinkle in the shoe and dump out the excess.

Another is a sprinkle of baby powder on your feet before putting your socks on.

Rotate shoes daily or more, use cedar shoe tree when not wearing and powder your feet.

you could also try spray on antiperspirant on your feet.

The foot powders work really well.

I have a black pair of dress shoes and a brown pair of dress shoes. They each get worn a few times a week, so it's not an issue. I did have a problem when in high school with only one pair of shoes...

I wear the same pair every day and have no issues at all with odor. I do however wear thick black cotton socks, not those thin dress socks. FWIW

socks and foot powder. They key is to reduce moisture in your shoe.

+1. When I worked in a nuclear plant (read: very hot and often very humid) my feet and shoes took a beating, so to speak. Dr Scholls foot powder completely solved the problem. The key seems to be keeping your feet dry.

i once read an article in MAXIM magazine about stank feet. hecka funny, and helpful. one line i remember:

"get down there and scrub your feet. the shampoo suds running down your legs when you rinse, doesnt count".

rotate shoes, cotton socks, and foot powder were some other highlights. i miss that subscription.

I used to work in a kitchen where my naturally smelly feet were subjected to water, grease, etc. Dr. Scholl's medicated foot powder was by far the best. It was almost magic. The non-medicated powder wasn't nearly as effective. Use that and heavy duty Odor Eater inserts and you should smell like a rose.

Another hint -- buy shoes without any kind of waterproofing. The waterproofness keeps moisture in as well as out. It's getting tougher to find non-waterproofed leather, but it's worth it. Your feet will stay cooler and less stinky at the end of the day.

Wash feet.
Use Scholls medicated foot powder.
cotton socks
Alternate shoes to let them dry.
wash out inside shoes with clean, warm water with a drop of ammonia in it. (about a tablespoon in a cup of water).

Funny, I was going to post something like this during the summer because my sandals would get foul. Since I couldn't wear socks I just had to keep cleaning them and my feet but still had a nasty funk. Baby powder would work for about an hour then get slimy. Finally had to not wear them for awhile and haven't put them on since. Next year I'll try Dr. Scholls and rotate to let them air out.

Thanks for posting this.

Spray those stinkers every day with a foot powder high in tolnaftate (pretty sure that's the active ingredient). Spray your feet, put CLEAN socks on, spray inside of shoes, put shoes on, take off and change socks & shoes as soon as you get home from work - that's usually what I do and it works fine.
