Fairies on Christmas trees

There tend to be three main things with which one can decorate the tops of Christmas trees. Stars and Angels are obvious, but Fairies....

Why?

I'm guessing it's a carry over from some other celebration that has been taken over by Christmas.

Does anybody have a good explaination?

Well Christmas is derived from pagan origin..

Furthermore what does Santa have to do with the birth of Jesus Christ?

Nothing. Santa is not a Christian part of Christmas. Neither is a Christmas tree, snowmen, candy canes or gifts. These are all secular parts of the holiday we call Christmas.

My hardcore Baptist in-laws have a Santa Claus on the top of their tree. In fact, none of the decorations in/on their house have any religious significance at all. I thought that was interesting.

Heck, even I have a star...

Because fairies like taking it up the rear?

Okay... I'm bad, sorry.
