I need HELP!
Okay, I'm having some trouble making a choice.
About 2 1/2 years ago I bought a Samsung miniDV camcorder. Just recently it took a dump, all of the functions work except the camera. Playback is fine, the viewscreens work all that but when I go to record there simply isn't an image to record. It broke while I was recording one day and then came back a few days later, then broke again. I called samsung and I Can send it to them for $150 and they will fix or replace it. I can send it to a shop up in the Valley to repair it for a charge of $45 to look at it applied to any repair costs. I have no idea how much parts for a Samsung camera are and these folks won't give me a clue when I ask. They are a frustrating drive away (though I suppose I could just mail it to them). The thing is, if I spend the money to get it fixed and it breaks again I'm gonna be real mad. If I send it to samsung it will come back with a 90 day warranty. If I send it the shop I get the same on the work they did but not anything else. If I buy a new one I spend likely double but get at least a year warranty. I'm irritated with it - money doesn't grow on trees and all that crap. I am the sort of person who expects his gadgets to "last" and this one hasn't. Well...I'm just irritated. I'll probably just take it up to the shop in the valley on wednesday and hope things will be under $100. BAH! Whatcha think? ![]()

Buy new and pay for it with an AmEx or other credit card that has an extended warranty program. Many high level credit cards have a program that doubles the warranty FOR FREE!
This means that if it has a one year warranty from the factory, you now have two years of coverage for no cost what so ever. Look on www.pricewatch.com or Ebay for descent prices.
