Happened in the dead of winter so everything was dumping in there and freezing. I discovered it Easter weekend, it had been warm for a couple of days and there was an odor that we could not identify. Figured a critter had gotten down there over the winter and died and was now decomposing. 3-4 inches deep, 600 sq. ft in a 20 inch high crawlspace. They were down there wallowing in it for 3 days. The only access to that portion of the foundation is a 12x12 panel in the floor of a closet so they had to clean it by hand and bring everything up in 5 gallon buckets. Took another week and a half to scrub, disinfect and replace all the insulation. $10,000, gotta love home owners insurance.
