Goodwood Revival -- amazing

I just watched 2 hours about the 2006 Goodwood Revival on Discovery HD. Simply amazing. I have to say that I'm going to start planning and saving up to experience this thing at least once. I don't think there could be anything else like it in the world. Besides, I think that the cars of the 50's and 60's are some of the most amazing and beautiful of all time. I'm an automotive enthusiast and a bit of a motor enthusiast, but these early cars hold a place in my heart. It's a shame that I was born too late and didn't have a clue about this sort of thing when I was young.

Does anyone know of any good sources of sportscar, Grand Prix, and/or F1 stuff from the 50s and/or 60s available on DVD? I hate that so many of these shows are so short and show tiny cameos of races and cars. I'd love to have hours and hours of old race footage to watch.

I attended the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 1997. It was the best car event I've ever experienced.

I've purchased some good racing DVDs from the Motorsports Collector

Hmm, I was trying to find those "Motorfilms Quarterly" DVDs. I remembered reading on the atlasF1 nostalgia board about Doug Nye putting those together. $40 a pop. Sounds like I'll have a standing order for all holidays for a while.

I attended the '04 and '05 Revivals and hope to do so again in '07. Hands-down, the best vintage automotive experience that I've ever attended. Opportunities not only to see historic cars and aircraft, but to mingle with drivers I've idolized since I was a kid. Well worth the trip.

Tom Morgan (Racemor), his wife, me and my wife went in 2004. To say it was unbelievable is an understatement. Too many pictures and too many stories to tell in a single post. But, here are a few...

Goodwood, Monterey Weekend & Bonneville. Those are the three events I'd like to see within the next few years.

Yes, Bonneville and Monterey are two others. And a Porsche Parade and Rennsport Reunion as well.

there's 2 seperate Goodwood events

The Festival of Speed itself is now a vast extravaganza of motorsport centred around the Hill Climb course. It features racing, exhibitions and parades and attracts many of motorsports most famous names.

The Goodwood Revival is a 3-day festival held each September for the types of cars and motorcycles that would have competed during the circuit's original period - 1948-1966.

I watched the same show. Amazing how hard they race those rare cars!
And how about Sterling Moss still going at 77! Did you see his spin in that big ole Jag and how composed he was?

Yes, and it's amazing how some of the old racers are still going strong and can speak as if they are years younger when so many folks at 80 talk and poop like a 2 year old. Paul Frere is another one of those gents that is still going 200 at an advanced age probably much, much, MUCH better than I could.

You know, I was thinking that it was separate, but I wasn't sure. Has anyone been to both? What did you like about each?

I was trying to find the in-car video of Derek Bell screaming up the hill in a Ferrari 333SP. Ridiculously fast, up what is, essentially, Lord March's driveway. I have the VHS of it (Goodwood Highlights 1997), but couldn't find it on Youtube.

WOW, just did a "Derek Bell" search on youtube. Some great Porsche 956 Nurburgring & LeMans content. Wow.

You need to get Grand Prix Legends for your PC, then download all the graphics updates, sound files, etc.
Think of it as a simulator rather than a game, it's much too difficult to hook your average gamer. You are probably going to need a few spare months though.

I've got it. I do play from time to time. You're right, it is really difficult.
