Didn't those smokey and the bandit '79 Trans Ams come with a smog strangled 301 V8 that made like 130hp? A friend of mine had one in high school...all show and no go.

Aerkuld 12-20-2006 04:22 PM

masraum,
Thanks for the pictures, those are some nice lug nuts.
Have to confess I didn't realise TA stood for Trans Am

Burnin' oil - Great Thread!!!!!!!! LOL! :D

hardflex 12-20-2006 04:35 PM

At least some of the Trans Ams had 455 engines, I remember a Car & Driver article detailing how they outperformed the Corvettes, even in handling. Never owned one though

The Trans Am Racing Series was my favorite of all time.

Before the Burt & Sally cars, before smog laws screwed 'em up, the Pontiac Trans-Am hauled ass, and handled amazingly well.

What's that thing weigh? 3800#s?

I'm sure it's speedy, a helluva lot faster than my old '88 targa, but they just don't do much for me.

I'm sure it is at least that much, it also has subframe connectors underneath. My last company car was a 2003 Impala "large sedan" which weighed over 4,000 pounds (adjusted for driver & cargo) on the scales. This car took up less room in the garage than my "compact" (in it's day) Corvair.

I drove air-cooled vehicles, imports (with import motors ;)) and motorcycles for many years and didn't get the muscle car bug until mid-life crisis #1, which was similar to the above, but red.
